Da das Spannungsrelais durch einen Ölkatarakt gedämpft ist, wird die Weiterleitung der Spannungsänderung mit einer gewissen, wenn auch nur kurzen Zeitverzögerung erfolgen. Da aber gleichzeitig auch die Polarisationswicklung des Zitterrelais an dieser gesunkenen Spannung liegt, ist jetzt die Zugkraft des Zitterrelais gesunken, und das Relais wird selbsttätig, noch bevor seine Feder gespannt wird, die Erregung des Generators zu steigern suchen.
