Abstract

The method involves arranging a high pressure-exhaust gas recirculation-cooler (15) in a high pressure-exhaust gas recirculation-pipeline (56), and connecting an exhaust gas-particle filter (8) with an exhaust gas-outlet (95) of an internal combustion engine (1). An exhaust gas temperature is determined by using an exhaust gas temperature-sensor (9) when a regeneration of the particle filter is released by a regeneration-releasing device. A bypass-valve of the cooler is opened when the exhaust gas temperature in a regeneration phase lies below a constant limit value.
