abglich.Two-way intercom for telegraph cables There are several circuits
known, by means of which an intercom operation on telegraph cables or lines
is made possible. They all use the principle of dividing the transmit stream into two equal
To share parts that cancel each other out in their effect on the recipient. Is to
it is necessary to use a 'replica' which is opposite to the transmission current
just like the real cable or wire behaves. Now you can see the broadcast streams
interpret according to known methods as superimposition of sinusoidal alternating currents,
and the simulation therefore only needs in the frequency range that those
Ingest currents, to be precise. It is therefore already known to use this frequency range
to limit upwards in such a way that higher frequencies than for telegraphing
are absolutely necessary to be omitted, so that for this also the replica
no longer needs to be correct. On the other hand, the frequency range is down to now
not limited, as the most common methods of telegraphing are also extraordinary
slow frequencies, even direct currents are used. As a result, one has
so far the replica has always been built in such a way that it can also use the cable for direct current (continuous current)
matched.
Abb. i (nach Nyquist, Journ. A. J. E. E. 43, S. i24., 192..1).
Nach M i 111 o r (Journ.
i), wesentlich sind.
To clarify these general discussions, consider Fig. I (after Nyquist, Journ. AJEE 43, pp. I24., 192..1). In this curve, the abscissas are the frequencies, the ordinates the relative intensity with which these frequencies contribute to the construction of a single Morse (or recorder) point of duration T, as indicated in Fig. 2. It can be seen that the lowest frequencies are most important, (1a they occur with the greatest intensity. The frequency i T does not occur, but higher frequencies are again included in the symbol, etc. Now the cable transmits the higher frequencies very poorly; they become completely omitted, the character is rounded off (see Fig. 3), and this rounding off must not go too far so that the receiving devices still respond reliably. According to M i 111 or (Journ. AJEE 41, pp. i 18 to 1 36 , i922) this condition is fulfilled if one only maintains the frequencies up to 1.6 times the telegraphing frequency only the frequencies up to 0.8 T, ie only the frequencies to the left of the dashed line (at a in Fig. i), are essential for any other telegraphic signs.
But now telegraphing methods are also known, where the lowest
Frequencies are not used (curbing and sending to D e 1 a n y or above
Block capacitors
). As an example it is assumed that (see Fig. 4)
for every point in the alphabet of the recorder an equal-length surge of electricity the opposite
Direction follows. One immediately overlooks the fact that with such signs in the
Mean no DC component is sent over the cable, so the frequency is 0
certainly not available. This is confirmed by the corresponding amplitude curve (Fig. 5), the
does not differ very significantly from Fig. i at the higher frequencies.
The very lowest frequencies, on the other hand, contribute to the with such a low amplitude
Sign at that it is permitted to use them (approximately to the left of the dotted line at
b) omit. For this character shape only the frequency range is between
b and a essential; if all the others are left out, the sign is given roughly the same form
of Fig. 6, and this distortion is still permissible.
The use of character shapes like the one in Fig. D is, as mentioned,
already known; however, it has not yet been recognized that it is precisely the replica
of the cable for direct current, which in itself looks very simple, the task of balancing
extremely difficult; because they change towards very small frequencies
Features of the cable very much. The derivation of the cable is highly dependent on frequency
and for direct current extremely much smaller than z. B. for 5- to ioperiod
Alternating current. In addition, it is usually for the medium telegraph frequencies
to regard the cable as electrical so long that only its wave resistance
needs to be replicated. On the other hand, for the slowest frequencies and for continuous current
the cable is not electrically long, so that it does not affect the wave resistance,
it depends on the impedance, which differs therefrom in this case. This
but depends very much on the devices connected to the far end. Retains
So if you use the slowest frequencies, you don't just have to use the cable, but also
the limit switching of the far end can be simulated. For all of these reasons it is
the addition of the lowest frequency range is inconvenient for the simulation, and
On the contrary, this is made much easier if you focus on the frequency range mentioned
waived. The methods for this are known; they essentially consist in the
Incorporation of capacitor chains or similarly acting structures. You can do this
either switch to the transmitter in the manner already indicated above, so that the
unwanted frequencies are not even sent out, or before the
Receiver, so that they can get into the cable, but not the receiver
can influence.
A cable balanced according to this invention permits two-way communication
at least the same for fast telegraphy, possibly because of the easier replication
even a slightly higher telegraphing speed than the usual ones up to now
Methods. On the other hand, a very slow Morse code operation is no longer possible in two-way communication
to be possible; this is to be regarded as an insignificant disadvantage compared to the advantage
the. higher telegraph speed.
