J. G. HOFFMANN in BERLIN. Leistenbruch - Bandage. JG HOFFMANN in BERLIN. Inguinal hernia - bandage.
Patentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 16. November 1888 ab.Patented in the German Empire on November 16, 1888.
The innovation described below and shown in the drawing in FIGS on hernia bandages is "characterized by the use of an on the peiote in the manner acting double spring, that its two freely resilient ends on the back of the Patients rest and the on the spring base, d. H. on the least flexible part of the spring, firm peiote is pressed against the body by both ends of the spring, so that therefore by the left as well as from the right side of the body there is a spring action on the peiote.
■ The previous action of the spring on the peiote was one-sided (Fig. 5), namely. unfavorable insofar as the peiote, which is supposed to prevent the break from coming out, is just at the kink of the system, namely at the most easily yielding spring end a. ■
...When coughing or with others. This part will give way to vibrations of the body first, since the lacing strap r does not provide any effective support for the spring boa against influences which appear in the direction of the arrow at α . ...
In the opinion of the inventor, avoidance of the abdominal region can only be prevented by leading both spring ends a 1 and b 1 up to the back, where they find an opposition; they then act from both sides, pressing in the direction of the arrow χ , · on the peiote attached to the neutral point of the spring, and when coughing and with. Other vibrations of the body may well give way to the ends of the springs resting on the back, which swing almost parallel, but not the part which forms the base of the spring and which is in contact with the abdomen. This part of the feather, because of its rigidity, since it forms the neutral, always at rest, part of the feather, can only undergo a change in shape when the force is very great; but since the stretching of the body exerts pressure on all sides when coughing, the free ends of the feather on the back will rather give way in the direction of the arrow than the neutral part of the feather bulges outward at 0. In the case of such a bulging of the spring, which is impossible in the view of the inventor in the case of the spring arrangement FIG. 4, at ο only the emergence of the break is possible; the latter is effectively prevented by the above-described arrangement of the spring.
Fig. Ι and 2 show the new spring arrangement in top view and side view with un- ■ tensioned State of the spring.
: Fig. 3 shows the use of this double spring in the event of a two-sided break, that is, using two pads. ρ is the peiote to which the double spring or two individual springs surrounding the body in opposite directions are attached, the ends a 1 b 1 of which are counterposed on the back. :
