Description

Process for the electrowinning of pure aluminum in dense Mold made from raw aluminum, alloys and the like. Patent is a process for the electrolytic extraction of pure aluminum by refining raw aluminum, Aluminum alloys or the like described, in which both the from the to be refined, Aluminum-containing good anodes as well as the cathodes in solid form and can be used in a vertical arrangement using an electrolyte bath, the melting point of which is lower than that of the electrodes and that of halogen salts of aluminum and of alkali and / or alkaline earth metals. At work After this process it is important to keep the aluminum deposited on the cathode in the most dense form possible with sufficient thickness. This is favored by the present invention. It was found that by a certain Content of electrolytes of foreign substances of various kinds an outgrowth of the cathode precipitate prevented and a dense precipitation is achieved. As additions which these Result, such metals or metal compounds or salts come into question, which are more noble than aluminum, and their deposition or dissolution potential. in the electrolyte in question no longer differs from that of aluminum than 0.6 volts. Such metals are, for example, manganese, zinc, cadmium, Lead, chrome, tin, copper, iron.

These additives to the electrolyte can be in it in several ways be brought in. Either they are added to it immediately, or the metal, from which the halide in question is formed is called a special auxiliary anode introduced. You have it in hand, the content of the halide of the auxiliary metal to be regulated by the potential or the current strength of the auxiliary circuit. To achieve Completely dense precipitation is sufficient. A content of 0.1 to 0.5 ofodes is sufficient Additional metal.
