So wurde festgestellt, daß man in den Trommeln nach vorliegender Erfindung außerordentlich vorteilhaft im ununterbrochenen Betriebe die Umsetzung von Formiaten, Acetaten, Fluoriden und anderen Salzen vornehmen kann und durch diese Arbeitsweise nicht allein an Apparatur und sonstigen Unkosten spart, sondern daß auch der wesentliche Vorteil einer höheren Ausbeute erzielt wird. Wird z. B. Natrium- oder Calciumformiat vermengt mit Schwefelsäure oder jedes für sich im ununterbrochenen Strome zugeführt, so erhält man auf der einen Seite einen gleichmäßigen Strom von Ameisensäure.
