Description

Rasterization process for commercial printing, in particular by telegraphic image transmitted images with raster lines of varying widths. It is known, halftone images to be sent by telegram in such a way that the semitones are broken down during the transmission of the transmission image in parallel lines of varying width, but the same density he follows. A similar breakdown of the halftones is also used in the production of illustration printing blocks required for newspapers and the like, and so it is obvious to use the telegraph negative images obtained in the above sense directly as a master copy for the metallic etched plates and the like coated with photosensitive chromate colloid to use. This use assumes, of course, that the reproduction of the broadcast picture takes place in the same size as the sent image, since the enlargement or reduction of the rastered image @ directly onto the light-sensitive chromate colloid layer of the etching plate Due to the low sensitivity of these layers to light, they can hardly be carried out efficiently lets and here as well as with any intermediate shots also the grid line spacing a corresponding enlargement or reduction would experience. The grid line spacing but for various reasons cannot tolerate either a reduction in size or an increase in size. In the first case, while maintaining the same high printing speed z. B. in rotary presses the print is unclean, and in the second case the image effect deteriorated due to the excessive spacing of the grid lines. Since there is now an enlargement, In particular, however, reducing the size of the sent images is not possible in many cases is bypassed, the screened broadcast can despite the advantage described above direct copying cannot be introduced in general without further ado.

According to the invention, the image can be resized without the Defects described are made by the fact that during the enlarging or reducing intermediate recording a line grid with the required grid line spacing (grid fineness) is used in such a way that the lines of this grid are at an angle to the ruler of the pictures to be taken. It arises with those won in this way Intermediate shots (master copy) that the additional raster the originally existing predominates in any case and has an almost exclusive effect on printing. When enlarged, the intermediate grid reduces the original, enlarged raster, so that the pictorial effect is significantly improved. at a reduction in the original, reduced raster comes from the printing process does not emerge while only that Intermediate grid in the desired Distance to the effect.

Figs. I to 5 are intended to explain the new process in more detail. For better In the illustration, the grid line spacing is greatly enlarged.

In Fig. I is the vertical rasterization of an image telegraphically transmitted Image shown, which is suitable for direct copying onto an etched plate. Fig. 2 shows the grid when enlarged and Fig. 3 when reduced. While an image according to Fig. 2 probably in terms of printing technology because of its large grid line spacing can be used, but results in an insufficient image effect, a use comes of the image according to Fig. 3 because of the grid spacing that is too small for commercial printing z. B. on newsprint out of the question. If you switch to the new procedure according to fig. q. and 5 an intermediate grid with horizontal grid lines and one Line spacing suitable for commercial printing (around 2o to 5o lines per centimeter) a, so come in picture q. mainly the horizontal lines of the intermediate grid figuratively to the effect by being together with the vertical, but less prominent ones Grid lines of the original image create a finer grid. At the picture 5 the vertical lines that are too close together do not appear at all, because the extremely fine contours disappear with the etching process. Comes to the print therefore only the appropriate horizontal grid.
