Description
The invention relates to a method according to the preamble of claim 1 and an apparatus for performing this method.
For copying or reproducing photographically recorded images digital image processing due to the further development of electronic Imaging technology is increasingly used because of the disadvantage of high costs and slow processing is less and less important. In contrast, the electronic imaging technology has many advantages with the large, integral Copies of image templates are normally unreachable.
For digital technology, the image templates in each of the three basic colors ben needs the image signals with high resolution, d. H. for review templates such as negative or positive film density values for each pixel in the gefor smallest detail and in the three colors. The trans Parenz values are then used for the digital processing of an AD conversion and possibly subjected to a logarithm.
For digitizing images on both transparent and un Transparent documents in positive or negative form become so-called scanners used, of which there are various types. The differences are in the mechanical design (e.g. flat bed scanner, drum scanner) or they are in the type of photoelectric component, e.g. B. CCD lines the different areas of the template are shown one after the other or Flying spot arrangements with only one photocell, etc. Common to all these arrangements that that from the lit or illuminated template Measuring light must be separated into the individual colors. To do this Color filters are used, both between the light source and the one to be scanned Template as well as behind this template and in front of the photosensitive element can be arranged. The permeability curves of these filters are fixed Measuring devices for exposure control with integral exposure in the Re gel according to the sensitivity course of the copying material. Play a role however also the spectral absorption curves of the film dyes and at for Viewing provided by the human eye like layers of Diaposi Creative films and copy material also play a role in human color sensitivity role in the eye.
The difficulties are exacerbated by the fact that the negative films spectral absorption of the cyan dye recording the red color image is not agrees with the position of the red sensitivity of the human eye. Rather, the absorption characteristics of those recording the red image became Layer of color negative films shifted to the longer wavelength range between the green and the red image in the yellow-red area one for the color to be able to hide copy material not sensitive area, so here darkroom lighting is possible without damaging the copy material is. This can be done by appropriately designing the filter for one Scanners are taken into account, however, this filtering is then for the scanning not suitable from positive templates.
The design of a scanner for both scanning slides and oversight templates as well as for CN films is therefore problematic. Especially if Scanners are designed for templates that are for direct viewing by the are suitable for the human eye, such as slides or positive color images in the red spectral range, d. H. for cyan dye, a value registered that is only too depends to a small extent on its concentration. Much of the re registered light passes the film in the so-called "darkroom gap" at approx. 610 nm because the diar filter spectrally on the flank of the red absorbing cyan dye of the color negative film. Through numerical algorithms this misregistration is subsequently corrected in the digital image, where if, however, a small signal is removed from a large surface must become. The correction algorithms depend heavily on the combination Fil ter- to dye spectrum; new corrections must be made for each film type will. In addition, the algorithms require considerable computing time because nonlinear corrections must be calculated as a function of hue.
There is another difficulty when scanning color negatives: The human eye is under in bright parts of the image for particularly low density different sensitive. So bright parts of the picture - low densities in the positive Image - can be digitized particularly finely graduated. These are in the color negative film Image parts stored in high densities. When scanning color negative films with Filters matched to slide templates therefore result in that in itself small transparency signal on the background is particularly low noise must be registered and digitized.
No. 4,922,333, a scanner for capturing digital image signals is like this well known from color positives as well as color negatives, in the measuring light beam lengang has a filter wheel. In addition to the usual blue and Green filters two red filters, one of which is used to sample the red signals from Color slides that serve others from color negatives. Their permeability curves are adapted to the sensitization curves of the films. For evaluation, controlled by the filter wheel position - only the right red signal in each case Image signal processing entered. This means additional control and a 25% loss in sampling time.
The object of the invention is therefore to design the filter of a scanner in such a way that color negative and color positive originals in the red area with comparatively less computing time for the correction of the signals and good signal yield be grasped.
This problem is solved by a method with the characteristic note paint the claim 1 and a device with the characterizing note paint the claim 3. By alternately combining the broadband Red filter, each with a cut-off filter for the red component, that of the respective If the type of original is not desired, the scanner must be changed over quickly possible from one to the other template type. The sampling time remains full usable.
Fig. 5 shows the basic structure of the beam path in a scanner.
In Fig. 1, the density values of a positive color material are recorded as curve 1 over the light wavelength λ, which arise after illumination after uniform illumination over the wavelength spectrum. The maxima of the curve at 450, 550 and 650 nm correspond in the spectral position to the maxima of the blue, green and red sensitivity of the human eye. The dotted curve 2 represents the spectral absorption of the cyan dye recording the red image, which is adapted to the sensitivity of the human eye. For comparison only, the dashed curve 3 shows the spectral absorption of the red dye of a color negative film, which is clearly shifted by about 50 nm towards the long-wave compared to the maximum sensitivity of the human eye for the red image at approx. 650 nm.
For comparison, the spectral absorption of a color negative film is recorded with curve 4 in FIG. 2 with illumination uniform over the wavelength spectrum. Again, the maxima for blue at 450 nm and for green at 550 nm are clearly recognizable. However, the maximum of the red sensitivity is clearly shifted compared to that in the case of positive material and to the "darkroom gap" marked with 4a at about 700 nm in accordance with curve 3 in FIG. 1. In addition, the course of a color mask is indicated with a dotted curve 5 in this density diagram. which is contained in the multilayer color negative film for known reasons which cannot be explained in more detail and is responsible for the tendency of the sensitivity curve towards the short wavelengths, which tends to rise in steps.
In Fig. 3, the usual permeability curve of color separation filters of a scanner is shown, which will be described in connection with FIGS . 4 and 5. In Fig. 4, the density curve of a cut-off filter with curve 9 is shown, which is activated for the red scanning of a negative film, while the dotted curve 10 represents the density curve of a cut-off filter for the long-wave red area, which for the scanning of positive documents such as Slide films or positive color images on photo paper are used. In curve 9 , a filter that is yet to be explained and is inverse to the mask profile 5 is already taken into account. A so-called finger filter would be sufficient for masking out the measuring light in the so-called dark room gap 4 a, which practically only absorbs to any appreciable extent between 570 nm and 650 nm.
In the beam path shown in FIG. 5 of a scanner for transmitted light conditions, a light source is indicated in the lower image area by 12, which uniformly illuminates a film 11 via a reflector 13 and possibly a condenser system. This film is cut in the plane of the drawing and runs vertically backwards. B. in the direction of the arrow gradually or continuously to the rear. This illuminated film 11 is imaged by a lens 14 onto a photoelectric receiver, in particular a CCD line 15 arranged perpendicular to the film run, which contains such a number of pixels that a sufficient resolution of the density curve in the film into individual point values is possible.
Between the light source 12 and the film 11 is a slide with a Vorfil ter 9 , which is currently in the beam path and has a density profile according to FIG. 4 and a second blocking filter 10 , which can be brought alternately to the prefilter 9 in the beam path and that has a density profile according to curve 10 in FIG. 4.
Between the pre-filter slide 9/10 and the film 11 there is a filter wheel 16 , the axis of which runs parallel to the beam path and which has three color filters 6 , 7 and 8 on its circumference. The permeability of the blue filter 6 corresponds to curve 6 in FIG. 3, that of green filter 7 to curve 7 in FIG. 3 and that of red filter 8 to curve 8 in FIG. 3. The filter wheel rotates in the direction during the scanning of the film of the arrow, so that the filters 6 , 7 and 8 each time filter the beam path for a basic color one after the other and for an illumination intensity of the sensor 15 corresponding to the respective course of the color t in the color in question in the strip of film 11 just measured.
The speed of rotation of the filter wheel 16 , the transport speed of the film 11 and the readout speed or the end of the integration time on the CCD line 15 are coordinated with one another in such a way that the measured values of the blue separation of the image depicted on the CCD line dots in succession, then the green measured values of the points and then the measured values of the red components of the points are forwarded to the image processing stage and a possible image memory. Thereafter, the film 11 is transported by the width of the scanned th stripe so that the measurement can then be repeated in the next stripe area.
The spectra of the blue and green absorbing dyes in negative films and positive photographic materials (film and paper) are very similar in almost all film manufacturers, so that the filters with curves 6 and 7 according to FIG. 3 both for slide positive or paper images and for negative films can be used. In contrast, a broadband filter according to curve 8 in FIG. 3 is set in the red channel, which passes both the red-absorbing spectral range of the slide and that of the color negative film. For negative films, the pre-filter 9 in the beam path with the density curve according to curve 9 in FIG. 4 limits the permeability range for the red component in the combined filter to the wavelength range according to curve 3 in FIG. 1. This makes an optimal detection of the red values achieved in the negative. Accordingly, little correction calculations are required.
If you now want to switch from negative templates to slides or if the scanner is set up to have positive supervisory templates, the filter slide should be changed so that instead of the prefilter 9 , the prefilter 10 with the absorption curve 10 in FIG. 4 comes into the beam path. The long-wave part of the light beyond the cyan dye is thus blocked, as is the one in the “darkroom gap” by the CN pre-filter 9 . The advantage of this arrangement is, in addition to the more universal application, that the filter wheels 16 rotating at high speed, which must be carefully balanced, do not have to be changed during the changeover. By switching the filter slide 9110 - each time the type of template is changed - the dynamics of the filter wheel 16 are not affected.
Another difference between negatives and reversal films is that the negative films have a color mask according to curve 5 in FIG. 2. This also complicates the evaluation because the light intensity on the light receiver 15 is different in addition to the dynamics of the template from color separation to color separation. This can be compensated for by a filter which is exactly inverse to the curve shape 5 , ie a filter which, for. B. at 750 nm has a density of 0.6, and at 550 nm of 0.3 and is transparent at 450 nm. According to curve 5 in FIG. 2, this filter is firmly connected to the prefilter 9 or is designed as a filter. However, it is somewhat difficult to illustrate and could also be replaced by three different gray filters, each of which has approximately the same absorption over all wavelengths, but is largely transparent for the scanning of the blue dots, a density of approximately 0.3 for green and for red of about 0.5. These gray filters, the density of which for the sake of clarity are shown as dashed lines 17 a, 17 b, 17 c in FIG. 2, would then have to be connected to the respective measuring filters 6 , 7 or 8 on the filter wheel 16 . The easiest way to do this is through a second disk the size of the filter wheel 16 , on which these gray filters 17 a, 17 b, 17 c are arranged in corresponding positions. This disc is then ready for the scanning of negati ven rotatably connected to set up and on the filter wheel 16 for scanning transparencies to disengage again in a position in which the transparent filter 17 is a blue for the measurement in the beam path.
Curves 1 in FIGS. 1 and 4 in FIG. 2 apply to illumination that is uniform over the wavelength spectrum, filter curves 6 , 7 , 8 in FIGS. 3 and 9, 10 in FIG. 4 apply to a uniform sensitivity over the wavelength spectrum the photoelectric sensor 15 . In practice, neither is usually given.
Halogen lamps are usually used (with those that are much too high compared to blue Red component) or fluorescent tubes (some with strongly wavelength-dependent Emission spectrum) used. Likewise, the spectral sensitivity for that Frequently used silicon-based sensors are strongly red dominant. This ge The wavelength-dependent differences are for different templates gene types (slide, reflected light, negative) always the same.
It is therefore advantageous to compensate for these differences by a suitable transmission of the RGB filters 6 , 7 , 8 . For this purpose, for example, in addition to the filter curves in FIG. 3, a neutral gray damping layer can be applied or an additional gray damping filter can be mounted in the filter wheel 16 . Adjusting the degree of damping is easy to do and easy to change when changing the lighting structure (lamp, sensor).
In particular, switching over during operation is not necessary for different types of templates. In the case of negative films, brightness control, e.g. B. for misexposed images, easily performed by increasing the illuminance or changing the integration time of the sensor and for R, G and B each ver comparable size. In the case of transparencies or incident light originals, the exposure amount can be set by a fixed gray filter (not rotating like the negative mask damping filter), which can also be connected to the original filter 10 . Without said damping, the dynamics of the sensor would be a limiting element for brightness control, because the brightest color channel (usually red) represents an upper limit, and at the same time the darkest (mostly blue) represents a lower limit.
