Description

Die Erfindung betrifft Dispersionsschichten auf Basis einer von einem Metall gebildeten Matrix: in die als Dispersoide nichtmetallische Partikel eingelagert sind. Erfindungsgemäß enthalten diese metallischen Dispersionsschichten durch hydrolytische Polykondensation von Alkoxiden erhaltene unporöse kugelförmige Oxidpartikel mit einer Partikelgröße zwischen 0,01 und 5 µm als Dispersoide. The invention relates to dispersion layers based on one of one Metal formed matrix: into the non-metallic particles as dispersoids are stored. According to the invention, these contain metallic Dispersion layers through hydrolytic polycondensation of alkoxides Non-porous spherical oxide particles obtained with a particle size between 0.01 and 5 µm as dispersoids.

Viele mechanische Bauteile aus Automobiltechnik und allgemeinem Maschinenbau sind Beanspruchungen ausgesetzt, die speziell in ober flächennahen Werkstoffbereichen gleichzeitig hohe Festigkeit, Zähigkeit sowie Gleitfähigkeit erfordern. Das ist besonders der Fall bei tribologi schen Beanspruchungen sowie allen mechanischen Beanspruchungen, bei denen Werkstoffschädigungen von der Oberfläche ausgehen können. Many mechanical components from automotive engineering and general Mechanical engineering are exposed to stresses, especially in upper near-surface material areas simultaneously high strength, toughness as well as require lubricity. This is particularly the case with tribologi stresses and all mechanical stresses, where material damage can originate from the surface.

Most of the materials used in mechanical engineering, about mainly of a metallic nature, as such not all can be used in individual cases they sufficiently meet the requirements. Materials that one Give the component sufficient stability in terms of design, can have, for example, insufficient surface hardness. Their usability, for example the increased use of light metals such as aluminum and magnesium alloys in engine construction depending on sufficient surface consolidation. An essential Metallic options here offer surface protection and hardening cal dispersion coatings. Here, the component or its component is loaded Surfaces with a coating of a certain, mostly corrosion resistant metal coated in the fine particles of certain hard materials are stored. These hard material particles, in conjunction with the matrix metal of the coating, improve the Surface hardness and thus a reduction in wear, ins especially with tribological loads. Hard materials common until now are mainly based on silicon carbide or diamond, but also number sufficient other, known to be very hard materials, mostly  The class of carbides, nitrides, borides and oxides are in this sense been used. The industry's most advanced process is the galvanic and chemical deposition of nickel dispersions layers. Here, the components made of galvanic or chemi nickel deposition baths, which additionally hard materials of mentioned type in fine particle form, with nickel layers stored hard particles separated.

However, the known hard particles have some serious disadvantages a wider use of appropriate metallic dispersion layer oppose. A major disadvantage is that this hard materials due to their crystal structure only in the form of sharp edges Particles are available. This property is also promoted through their usual production method, namely grinding the mineral or crystalline base materials. Corresponding dispersion layers accordingly have a comparatively rough and abrasive effect Surface, the character of which is also characterized by elaborate aftermath processing, such as fine grinding and honing, in principle nothing can be changed. In friction pairings, the counterparts such. B. Piston / cylinder barrel surface, subject to considerable wear.

Due to the manufacturing process, such hard particles have so far only been available in sizes classes of several micrometers and especially with a wide particle size distribution and irregular particle shape. This is also disadvantageous because, on the one hand, the distribution of the particles in the Dispersion layers and their surfaces are not uniform and on the other hand the layer thicknesses cannot be kept so thin, as desirable for technical and economic reasons. It there was therefore a need for hard particles as dispersoids for metallic dispersion layers with small particle sizes, preferably in Submicron range, which is characterized by a constant, ideally spherical particle structure, and narrow particle sizes mark distribution.

Es wurde nun gefunden, daß sich durch hydrolytische Polykondensation von Alkoxiden erhaltene unporöse kugelförmige Oxidpartikel mit Partikel größen zwischen 0,01 und 5 µm vorzüglich als Dispersoide für metallische Dispersionsschichten eignen. It has now been found that hydrolytic polycondensation Non-porous spherical oxide particles with particles obtained from alkoxides sizes between 0.01 and 5 µm, especially as dispersoids for metallic Dispersion layers are suitable.

Gegenstand der Erfindung ist demnach die Verwendung von derartigen Oxidpartikeln als Dispersoide in metallischen Dispersionsschichten. The invention accordingly relates to the use of such Oxide particles as dispersoids in metallic dispersion layers.

Gegenstand der Erfindung sind weiterhin metallische Dispersions schichten auf Basis einer von einem Metall gebildeten Matrix, in die als Dispersoide nichtmetallische Partikel eingelagert sind, wobei diese als Dispersoide durch hydrolytische Polykondensation von Alkoxiden erhaltene unporöse kugelförmige Oxidpartikel mit einer Partikelgröße zwischen 0,01 und 5 µm enthalten. The invention further relates to metallic dispersions layers based on a matrix formed by a metal, into which as Dispersoid non-metallic particles are embedded, these as Dispersoids through hydrolytic polycondensation of alkoxides Non-porous spherical oxide particles obtained with a particle size contain between 0.01 and 5 µm.

The invention also relates to a method of manufacture development of metallic dispersion layers in which a bath, which is a dissolved salt of the metal in question and non-metallic Contains particles dispersed therein, the metal and the particles electrolytically or chemically deposits on a substrate, characterized in that that the deposition bath by hydrolytic polycondensation of Non-porous spherical oxide particles obtained by alkoxides with one particle contains between 0.01 and 5 µm.

The non-porous spherical oxide to be used according to the invention Particles are known per se from the prior art. Leave this hydrolytic polycondensation from alcoholate compounds corresponding elements are preserved and fall in the form of more compact spherical particles. The basic reaction conditions for Production of SiO₂ particles by hydrolytic polycondensation are for example from the publications W. Stöber et al. in J. Colloid and Interface Science 26, 62 (1968) and 30, 5168 (1969) and the U.S. See Patent 3,634,588. Using this method, too other particles, such as B. TiO₂ or ZrO₂. For the  Production of highly monodisperse non-porous spherical SiO₂- Particles with a standard deviation of no more than 5% attention is drawn to EP 0 216 278, which is a correspondingly switched off Manufacturing process based on hydrolytic polycondensation disclosed. Core of the process used for the production of the particles The present invention is particularly preferred is a two-stage Method. The first step is hydrolytic polycondensation sation of tetraalkoxysilanes in aqueous-alcoholic-ammoniacal Medium formed a sol or a suspension of primary particles, the then by adding further tetra brings alkoxysilane to the desired final size. The procedure according to EP 0 216 278 is straightforward and gives the same result to others Oxides and also transferable to mixed oxide systems. An analogous one Process for the preparation of various metal oxides in the form of spherical Particles with a narrow particle size distribution can be found in EP 0275688 remove. A corresponding two-stage process is also available Production of different metal oxides and also mixed oxides in addition, there are chemical groups on the surface have bound: described in EP 0 391 447.

For the metallic dispersion layers according to the invention are mono disperse spherical oxide particles preferred. The term is monodisperse to understand: that the particles of a certain diameter a as small as possible, particle sizes in a very narrow range have scatter. Monodisperse spherical oxide are preferred particles with a standard deviation of the particle diameter of less than 10% and especially less than 5%: how they look EP 0 216 278 are known. The particle sizes are preferably in Range between 100 nm and 1 µm, in particular between 250 nm and 500 nm. In principle, all usual come as base materials of the particles Chen solid oxides or oxidic materials, such as metal in particular oxide in question. Preference is given to oxide particles consisting of SiO₂, TiO₂, ZrO₂, Al₂O₃ or corresponding mixed oxides exist. Particularly preferred are particles of SiO₂ and TiO₂, but especially SiO₂.

Je nach den Erfordernissen des späteren Anwendungszweckes der metallischen Dispersionsschichten, in die diese Partikel eingelagert sind, kann es zweckmäßig sein, die wie vorstehend beschrieben erhaltenen Partikel einer zusätzlichen Nachhärtung zu unterziehen. Tempern oder Glühen der Partikel bei Temperaturen von ca. 700 bis 1200°C sind geeig nete Methoden der Nachhärtung.Depending on the requirements of the later application of the metallic dispersion layers in which these particles are embedded, it may be appropriate to obtain those obtained as described above Subsequent curing of particles. Annealing or Annealing of the particles at temperatures of approx. 700 to 1200 ° C are suitable Methods of post-curing.

A possibly advantageous for the respective application organic modification of the particles on the surface can be in complete Consistent with methods that are made for the Manufacture of chromatographic sorbents Silica gels are known. Common modifiers are organo trialkoxysilanes such as e.g. B. methyltriethoxysilane, ethyltriethoxysilane, octyl triethoxysilane, octadecyltriethoxysilane, mono- or polyfluoroalkyl triethoxysilane or silanes with functionalized organo groups. Here, silanes with such functionalized organo groups are ahead with which the hydrophilic / hydrophobic character of the particle surface areas influenced or specifically set with which the levitation and the distribution behavior of the particles in the deposition solution influences as well as the migration behavior in the galvanic field and that Separation and installation behavior of the particles in the metal layer can be controlled. Modifiers suitable for this purpose are, for example, silanes with hydroxyl, carboxyl / carbonium, amino / Ammonium or sulfonyl groups.

Of course, this organic modification can be completely analog also with oxides other than SiO₂ and / or with corresponding organo alkoxides other elements are made. In the case of a waiter surface modification of the particles by covalently bound organic Groups take particular account of the properties of the particles Lich spherical and monodispersity, not affected, while the advantage adhere to properties associated with such a modification, can be perceived.

The production of the metallic dispersion according to the invention Layers that contain these oxide particles as dispersoids can according to known methods and with the usual in this technology Deposition baths take place. The main difference is that instead of the hard particles previously used are now those described above spherical oxide particles are used. For the separation of metal layers, in particular metallic dispersion layers Two methods are available for substrates. For one, it can Electrolytic deposition, i.e. from corresponding electroplating baths With the help of electric current. Secondly, the layer generation also without current from corresponding deposition baths chemical reaction. The compositions more appropriate Electroplating baths or chemical deposition baths for the respective Matrix metals, the necessary equipment and equipment in the The individual process parameters to be observed are the relevant ones Known expert or can the highly developed relevant State of the art can be easily removed. For details on this there is therefore no need to go into further detail here. Preferred as Matrix material for metallic dispersion layers is nickel, however Chromium as well as numerous other electrodepositable or chemically separable Metals are suitable. Primarily come as substrate materials metallic materials but also plastic in question. Typical use areas for metallic dispersion layers in mechanical engineering, at which are concerned with surface hardening, corrosion and wear reduction tion and reduction of friction are, for example, cylinders walls, piston running surfaces, synchronous and piston rings, rollers, bearings, Rollers, spindles, high-speed parts, movement and Guide elements, quills, nozzles, forming and bending tools etc.

Surprisingly, it has been shown that with the use according to the invention of the spherical oxide particles as dispersoids in metallic disper sion layers to achieve unexpected benefits. So let's get on due to their uniform spherical shape, the accessibility clearly smaller particle sizes, such as in the submicron range, as well as the narrow  Particle size distribution thinner and more evenly constructed Create layers. This is particularly noteworthy Advantage that for one with conventional hard particles such as silicon carbide comparable layer hardening effect a significantly less Dispersoid content, typically in the order of 1/10, is required. The use of the spherical oxide particles according to the invention brings about So a significant increase in the hardening effect, which in turn a significant reduction in wear and corrosion of the Coating results. The particles contribute due to their spherical shape a significant reduction in the coefficient of friction of the coating at what with friction pairings in a reduced wear of the Counter body noticeable.

Insgesamt läßt sich durch den Einsatz der durch hydrolytische Poly kondensation von Alkoxiden erhaltenen unporösen kugelförmigen Oxid partikeln als Dispersoide in metallischen Dispersionsschichten deren Einsatzbreite erheblich erweitern.Overall, the use of hydrolytic poly condensation of alkoxides obtained non-porous spherical oxide particles as dispersoids in metallic dispersion layers Extend the range of use considerably.
