Description
The invention relates to a device for beam shaping a laser beam with a ring-shaped cross section.
Laser beams with a ring-shaped cross section especially generated in a coaxial laser. At a coaxial laser is a laser in which the active medium has an annular cross section and ei forms a hollow cylinder. Such lasers are made, for example German Offenlegungsschrift 41 23 024 or from the WO 91/15045 A1 known. Are the propagation conditions for the rays propagating within the active medium through the interaction of the radiation field with the limbs tongues of the active medium, i. a. Multiple reflections on the its limits, i. H. there is no free beam pro pagation before, it is a waveguide laser.
Such a coaxial waveguide laser is for example in WO 91/15045 A1. Between coaxial hollow cylinders The electrodes are filled with a gas Discharge space. Opposite the open end faces of this Electrodes are arranged resonator mirrors, the surface of which Chen are shaped such that one on the resonator mirror is not reflected in itself, son which is offset in the circumferential direction with each reflection. In this way, the beam travels in the circumferential direction Edge of one of the resonator mirrors and enters there through an off exit window from the resonator.
The coaxial laser emerging from the resonators Laser beam has a ring-shaped or sector-shaped cross cut and is usually tangential or radial polar siert. Both the shape of the cross section and the tang tial or radial polarization of light within this Cross-sections are, however, in terms of the egg of propagation properties of the laser beam disadvantageous. Compared to li near polarized laser beams with circular or rectangular cross-section of the same area have ringsek gate-shaped rays with tangential or radial polarisa tion a significantly larger far field divergence. The existence different directions of polarization within the cross Cutting the laser beam also leads to an un wanted to reduce its intensity on the beam axis.
The invention is based on the object, a Einrich to specify the beam shaping of a laser beam with which a laser with a ring sector cross section beam can be generated that is approximately rectangular Cross section with constant li within this cross section has near polarization.
The stated object is achieved according to the invention by a device with the features of the patent Proverb 1. Since this facility contains a first mirror, whose surface is set as a cone sector, and one contains a second mirror, the surface of which is shaped like a parabolic cylinder, whose line focus with the Ke gel axis of the first mirror at least approximately together falls, a beam strikes the first mirror with ring sector cross-section and tangential polarisa tion into a beam with a rectangular cross-section and over creates the cross section of constant linear polarization.
Further advantageous embodiments of the invention result themselves according to the subclaims.

FIGS. 7 to 10 show further embodiments of a device for beam shaping of a laser beam according to the invention.
A preferred embodiment of a coaxial laser according to the invention is disclosed in FIG. 11, in which the device for beam shaping a laser beam is arranged within a resonator of the laser.
Referring to FIG. 1, a coaxial laser, for example, a coaxial waveguide laser, coaxially arranged hollow cylindrical electrodes 2 and 4, which define a rule hohlzylindri discharge space 10. Opposite one of the end faces of the hollow cylindrical electrodes 2 and 4 is a he resonator mirror 6 and opposite the other end face, a second resonator mirror 8 is arranged. The first resona torspiegel 6 is on a part of its circumference, for example se on its half circumference, as a partially transparent mirror 6 a and on the remaining part as an opaque mirror 6 b ge. The resonator mirrors 6 and 8 together with the coaxial waveguide formed by the electrodes 2 and 4 form a resonator. The gel by the partially transparent Spie 6 a passing out of the resonator and exiting La serstrahl 12 has corresponding to the annular sector shape of the partially transparent mirror 6 a also a ring-sector-shaped cross-section.
The resonator mirror 8 is preferably designed as a conical mirror or, as shown in the figure, as a paraboloid of revolution in order to ensure an effective coupling of all areas of the resonator.
Compared to the semitransparent mirror 6 a, a first mirror 20 is arranged in the direction of expansion of the laser beam 12 , the reflecting surface of which has the shape of a cone sector about a cone axis 30 . The axis of the laser beam 12 is parallel to this cone axis 30 . This first mirror 20 deflects the laser beam 12 emerging from the resonator by an angle α close to 90 °. The angle α corresponds to the opening angle of the cone sector. A slight angular deviation of 90 ° is required to enable the laser beam 12 to be decoupled, and should be chosen to be as small as possible within the given geometric conditions.
The laser beam 14 deflected by the first mirror 20 strikes a second mirror 24 , the surface of which has the shape of a parabolic cylinder, the line focus of which coincides with the cone axis 30 of the first mirror. The laser beam 16 reflected by the second mirror 24 then has an approximately rectangular cross section with a linear polarization that is constant over the cross section.
In Fig. 2 the beam cross section of the outgoing laser beam from the resonator 12 and the various areas within this beam cross-section associated polarization directions 13 are illustrated. In the figure it can be seen that the polarization direction 13 is tangential ver and thus varies within the beam cross section.
The laser beam 16 reflected by the second mirror 24 , on the other hand, has an approximately rectangular cross section illustrated in FIG. 3 with a polarization direction 17 that is constant over the entire cross section. These properties have the laser beam 16 reflected by the second mirror 24 even when the laser beam emerging from the resonator has a radial polarization.
In the plan view of Fig. 4 is illustrated that the cone axis 30 coincides with the line focus of the convex second Spie gels 24th In this way, the focusing by the first mirror 20 as a line on the cone axis 30 th beams are delt reduced to any mutually parallel beams 16 fourteenth
An exact conversion of a ring-shaped beam cross section into a rectangular beam cross section takes place strictly theoretically only with a mirror arrangement according to FIG. 5, which contains a first mirror 21 , the cone opening angle of which is exactly 90 °. With this mirror 21 ei ne deflection of the laser beam 12 is generated by exactly 90 °, but with which an escape of the laser beam from the laser is very difficult for design reasons.
For this reason, the cone opening angle of the first mirror 20 deviates somewhat from 90 ° in the practical exemplary embodiment. In the cross section according to FIG. 6 it can be seen that the deflection of the laser beam 12 takes place on the first mirror 20 by an angle α which deviates by a small angle δ of 90 °. In the example of the figure, δ is negative, ie the angle α is less than 90 °. However, the angle α can also be greater than 90 °. This deviation of 90 ° is necessary to enable the laser beam 16 reflected at the second mirror 24 to emerge from the resonator. Admittedly, this has the consequence that the beam cross section of the laser beam 16 reflected at the second mirror 24 has only approximately the shape of a rectangle. The associated disadvantages can, however, be accepted for small angles δ of up to approximately 20 °.
Instead of a cone opening angle deviating from 90 °, the mirror 24 can also be tilted so that the line focus and the gel axis no longer coincide exactly and in this way an escape of the laser beam 16 is possible.
FIGS. 7 and 8 show a further embodiment of a suitable beam forming device according to the invention. In this embodiment, a concavely curved second mirror 26 is provided. Also in this embodiment, the cone axis 30 coincides with the line focus of the second Spie gel 26 located in this case outside of the second mirror 26th
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 9 and 10, a first mirror 22 is provided, the reflecting surface of which is formed by a cutout that is smaller than 180 °. In all embodiments, the size of the cutout is to be adapted to the size of the laser beam 12 emerging from the resonator in such a way that the entire laser beam 12 is imaged. In Fig. 10 it can also be seen that the Kegelöffnungswin angle and thus the angle α is less than 90 °.
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 11, the device for beam shaping formed from a first mirror (conical mirror) 22 and a second mirror (parabolic cylinder mirror) 24 is arranged within a resonator delimited by mirrors 8 , 7 a and 7 b. In analogy to the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 1, the mirror 8 is preferably a parabolic mirror or a conical mirror. The mirror 7 b, in the case of a coaxial waveguide laser preferably a toroid, covers only part of the end face of the discharge space 10 facing it so that a laser beam with a ring-shaped cross section reaches the first mirror 22 of the device for beam shaping a beam and is deflected from there to the second mirror 24 . The reflected from the second mirror 24 beam 16 with a rectangular cross-section meets a partially transparent mirror 7 a, for example a plane mirror, in particular a cylinder mirror, which allows part of the beam 16 to pass through and part is reflected back into the device for forming a laser beam. There, the back-reflected beam is converted into a laser beam with a ring-sector-shaped cross-section and re-enters the waveguide. In a preferred embodiment, a flat deflecting mirror 29 is additionally arranged in the propagation path of the laser beam 16 , with which the beam 16 is aligned parallel to the longitudinal axis of the laser.
