Abstract

Grass stalks, which are not caught by the lawn mower during mowing at the edges of concrete slabs, kerbstones and walls, are cut off afterwards, as well as possible, by means of shears or other cutting devices. Catching the individual grass stalks which have been pressed to the ground by the wheels of the lawn mower is, with cutting devices available on the market, very laborious and time-consuming. As I myself garden for a hobby, I have given some thought to facilitating and improving this work. As a craftsman, I then started to build a cutting device. Having started by simple cutting off of the lawn edges, I came to the idea of using a round cutter (circular cutter). The problem was then to create a possibility of restricting the round cutter to a given penetration depth and of being able to carry out the rolling of the round cutter without great resistance, i.e. with relatively low force exertion. I was able to solve both problems by arranging a disc approximately 20 mm wide laterally on the round cutter. I thus restricted the cutting depth of the cutter to approximately 25 mm. As a result of this measure, I could then also guide and roll the round cutter better.
