Process for the electrolytic refining of tin-containing copper. at

the deposition of yellowish white stannic acid on the cathode.
verhindert. Will man also denselben Elektrolyten längere Zeit verwenden, muß die
By heating the electrolyte to about 50 °, a part can be removed
The stannic acid already flocculates at the anode, but the rest is still colloidal
in solution so that z. B. when using anodes with a tin content of only 0.5
Percent after a very short time, the stannic acid deposition of pure cathode copper
prevented. So if you want to use the same electrolyte for a long time, you have to
colloidally dissolved stannic acid can be removed from the same. The common means
such as settling or filtration, but do not properly lead to the stannic acid
to remove from the solution.
Various attempts have now been made to obtain colloidal stannic acid
to be deposited either in the bath itself or outside it. So is suggested
have been to add colloids to the electrolyte, which lead to the anode during electrolysis
hike. This effect of the colloids to be added should also be carried out here
Addition of highly basic acid, e.g. B. phosphoric acid, to the electrolyte and also through
Injection of air are supported. Another well-known way is
the electrolyte outside the bath up to almost the boiling temperature of the water
to heat, then quenching and thereby also flocculating the colloidal stannic acid.
In the first of the last-mentioned ways, the flocculation of the colloidal takes place
Tinic acid takes place exclusively in the bath itself, which of course creates the anode sludge
contaminated by all the tin contained in the anodes and difficult to process
will. In the second way one avoids that the entire tin of the anodes as
Stannic acid goes into the anode sludge, but the precipitation of stannic acid has one
Further heating of the lye outside the baths is a precondition for what happens in the company
is uncomfortable and annoying after all.
According to the invention, by adding small amounts of powdery coal
with high absorption capacity (e.g. animal, blood, bone and charcoal) the stannic acid
flocculated, completely and almost instantly, like thorough experiments
showed. It can then be easily removed from the solution by filtration. Filtration
the
Solution through filter, on which a thin layer of finely divided charcoal is applied
led to the same goal.
The new method has the advantage over the known methods
that tin-containing copper alloys without the two aforementioned inconveniences
can be electrolytically refined. On the one hand, one avoids an essential one
Contamination of the mostly silver and gold-containing anode sludge.
Since the enrichment of precious metals in the latter in many cases for economy
Such a system is essential, it is made by the cheaper
the processing costs of the anode sludge, which because of its greater purity
or stannic acid poverty is possible, undoubtedly a not inconsiderable economic one
Progress guaranteed by the invention. On the other hand, the stannic acid is outside
the baths are deposited without affecting the temperature of the electrolyte that is in operation
expediently at about 4 ° to 50 °, artificially for the purpose of separating out stannic acid
must be increased. It is expedient to proceed in such a way that one is either uninterrupted
part of the electrolyte circulating through the baths at any one
Point of circulation expediently withdraws from the elevated tank and it after the
Filtration can flow back into the circuit, or that the entire
Electrohvten leads through a filter charged with active carbon.
