From US 50 65 615 a method for determining the content of liquid water in the atmosphere is also known, microwaves being used for the detection.
The invention has for its object a simple Method and a simple device for detection cloud physical characteristics, such as degree of coverage, density of the clouds, height of the clouds, possibly layer thickness of the clouds create that in the local area for short Timely weather forecasts or forecasts also for weather forecast changes can be used, for example, to control air conditioning units or other weather dependent controls and Improve regulations or for weather and roads services can provide additional statements. The invention solves this task for a method according to the characteristic Features of claim 1 and for the implementation of In terms of procedure, she proposes a plant according to the characteristic Features of claim 3 before. The invention uses Determination of cloud cover and cloud physics data existing television satellites in connection with a Receiving system for the television signals and in connection with local temperature measurement data of the surface and the air.
The method and a system for determining the degree of coverage of the sky with clouds, the cloud types and their density as well as the layer thickness of the clouds and their height above the earth's surface are explained below using the diagram shown in FIG. 1. A television satellite, not shown, for example at a height of 36 km above the earth's surface, broadcasts the television programs in two polarization planes, horizontally and vertically. The signals S of the individual television channels are FM-modulated (frequency modulated). With FM modulation there are no signal fluctuations. The system according to the invention is now equipped with a parabolic mirror 1 , for example 80 cm in diameter, and a reception converter 2 , which is aimed at the television satellite. A commercially available reception converter is used in the parabolic mirror, which receives the television satellite signals ES of a polarization plane with all channels. An intermediate frequency signal ZS of approximately 950 to 1800 MHz comes from this reception converter 2 . This intermediate frequency signal is a sum signal of all television channels on this polarization level and is subsequently amplified in a two-stage intermediate frequency amplifier 3 and then rectified.
The intermediate frequency amplifier is equipped with the rectification. The intermediate frequency amplifier supplies the signal voltage SS, which is brought to an evaluable measured variable in a subsequent measuring amplifier 4 . The measuring amplifier is equipped with a power supply. The signal voltage VSS thus amplified is then fed to an interface 5 . The interface 5 also receives the measurement data of the surface temperature T1 and air temperature T2 determined with the temperature sensors 7 and 8 . The interface 5 forms the interface of the determined current measurement data VSS and T1 or T2 to a computer with evaluation, for example a PC (personal computer) 6 . The PC can also be equipped with display and output, such as a screen, printer or the like 9.
In order to find connections between the degree of coverage and the Obtaining cloud cover types is a basic calibration, i. H. the specification of reference values, required empirically be determined and stored in the computer. A Set reference group in defined conditions determined signal voltages of the from the television satellite received television signals. For example, when clear Heavens are the measured values of the amplified signal voltage VSS in a certain range that is still from the relative Humidity is dependent. Accordingly, such amplified signal voltage determined as a reference and fixed, in connection with clear cloudless Sky, so zero clouds.
To base reference sizes for different clouds too is obtained, a surface temperature and a Air temperature measured, showing the differences between the two Temperatures can be correlated statistically with cloud cover, since the difference expresses the radiation balance of the surface, if the measured air temperature is in a the measured Surface area assigned and definable distance located. For example, a temperature measuring device, such as Temperature sensor in 5 cm above a surface, e.g. B. over grass, installed outside of buildings, this is the temperature T1 corresponds to a temperature prevailing on the ground measured. The second temperature sensor is e.g. B. at a height of 2 m over the first temperature sensor, d. H. over the same Surface, built up. With this second temperature sensor the temperature T2 of the ambient air is measured. The difference in The two measured temperatures can then be statistically Clouds correlate because the difference expresses the Radiation balance of the assigned surface. With strong Clouds during the day are the differences between the two measured temperatures of the two temperature sensors below 1.5 ° K while above 3 ° K when the sky is clear.
The following FIG. 2 shows empirically determined characteristic data index values for cloud types and densities from temperature differences of the arrangement described above. Such a scheme with reference values can now be entered and used in the computer for the basis of reference values and for evaluation by comparison.
The determined clouding indices standardized from the temperature differences are listed in the vertical of the illustration in FIG. 2, and for this purpose the respectively clearly identified cloud types with degree of coverage on the horizontal are assigned. Further information can be found in FIG. 2.
In a further development of the method, this will improved that as a characteristic of the cloud density Moisture content indirectly via a runtime measurement is determined and taken into account in the evaluation. this will According to the invention according to the characteristic features of Claims 2 and 4 achieved.
The method is further characterized in that with Using a time frame and a time reference the delay of microwave signals is measured by the atmosphere. This runtime change in the atmosphere is caused by Liquid water - clouds - caused. Microwaves are in Water slows down. There is a proportionality between the liquid water in the atmosphere and the current values. The real cause is the high one Dielectric constant of water. So that will be Microwave signal no longer at the speed of light in water transmitted, but slower. With the help of this value you can now exactly the amount of liquid water can be determined. Now stand there Information about the water vapor content and the liquid water content the atmosphere available, which in turn affects the quality and quantity of cloud cover can be inferred.
In FIG. 3, the method explained in FIG. 1 is supplemented by devices for measuring the time difference of the transit time signals. For this purpose, the intermediate frequency signal of the reception converter is fed to a channel receiver 10 . This signal is demodulated there and then fed to a phase comparator 11 . This phase comparator is fed by a highly stable time reference, with the aid of an extremely precise time measurement, for example by an atomic radio clock 12 , which supplies the reference variable signal. The resulting product from the phase comparator shows the runtime differences. Because the signals that are sent to the satellite from the ground station are also synchronized with an extremely precise time measurement, the transit time differences can be measured. These values are also entered into the computer. The runtime differences are therefore found in that microwaves are transported more slowly in the medium water. The transit times are therefore proportional to the amount of liquid water in the atmosphere.
So with the signal voltage values and Temperature difference values with empirically determined Build a reliable statistic that it enables the current cloud cover and the degree of coverage currently received television signals and those obtained therefrom Signal voltages and the currently measured Temperature difference values by corresponding correlation and To determine comparison. The determined signal voltage values, which reflect the field strength of the television satellite, decrease due to the damping in the atmosphere by the Clouds. In this way reliable statistics can be obtained with both measured values be built with which to cover the clouds and their can determine cloud physical characteristics. It is possible, the degree of coverage, deep cloud cover, medium-high cloud cover, Precipitation, the layer thickness from deep cloud to determine. The method according to the invention is applicable to the Weather services where, for example, if the system is nationwide is installed, the cloud observation with personnel can be omitted, because then with the help of the weather satellites and the Soil observation system and evaluation system according to the invention the atmosphere can be monitored completely automatically.
