An Holzschleifern sind Regelvorrichtungen gebräuchlich, die bei steigender Umlaufzahl der treibenden Kraftmaschine mittels eines Fliehkraftpendels derart auf ein in die Zuleitung für das den Schleifdruck erzeugende Preßwasser eingeschaltetes Drosselventil einwirken, daß dieses Ventil mehr geöffnet und dadurch der Schleifdruck erhöht wird. Beim Sinken der Umlaufzahl tritt der umgekehrte Vorgang ein. Bei dieser Art der Regelung ergeben sich Verzögerungen und daher Schwankungen der Umlaufzahl, die für manche Betriebe, z. B. für Papierfabriken, Elektrizitätswerke u. dgl., unzulässig sind. Man war daher oft genötigt, zwei getrennte Kraftmaschinen, z. B. Turbinen, aufzustellen, von denen die eine die Schleifer, die andere den übrigen Betrieb bediente. Man konnte die Schwierigkeit auch nicht dadurch beheben, daß man einen Turbinenregler anwendete, da ein solcher wohl die Umlaufzahl in richtiger Höhe hielte, aber den Schleiferregler nicht zur Wirkung kommen ließe, so daß je nach der schwankenden Belastung des Schleifers der Leitapparat der Turbine ständig. mehr oder weniger geöffnet werden würde.
