Description
The invention is based on a method Preamble of the main claim. It also includes an arrangement to perform the procedure.
A method of this kind is known from NTZ, volume 43, 1990, No. 2, pages 84 to 86. According to this procedure is the intrinsic noise the one used in the measurement Level meter during a calibration process measured and then the noise of the measurement object, so that intrinsic noise during the subsequent evaluation process of the level meter can be taken into account. To the Calibrate and actually measure the noise the test object becomes a source of noise in the form a diode used. If one is connected to this diode DC voltage is applied, it supplies one hot noise temperature of, for example, 10,000 K. corresponding first noise power, without bias it delivers a cold noise temperature of for example 290 K corresponding noise power. These two different levels of noise Noise source are calibrated directly in the Level meter and in the actual measurement in that Test object fed and the resulting Level measured. From these two given Noise temperature values and the measured noise levels the calibration and measuring process can then Noise temperature or smoke number can be calculated (Formula 13 according to ntZ volume 43, number 2, page 85). This Known methods take this into account Intrinsic noise of the selective level meter, needed however, an additional source of noise in terms of on the required precision is relatively expensive.
In another known method of this type, which the noise figure according to the so-called three DB method is determined (M. Groll, microwave measurement technology, 1969) and which requires an absolute level measurement, it is known per se as a test signal source To use sine wave generator.
It is an object of the invention to provide a method for Determining the noise figure of a test object, the one in the method mentioned at the beginning makes the required noise source unnecessary and nevertheless ensures high measuring accuracy. Furthermore is supposed to be a simple construction to execute of this procedure.
This task is based on a process Preamble of the main claim by the characteristic features solved. A particularly simple one There is an arrangement for carrying out this method from the subclaims.
The invention makes use of the knowledge that in the well-known formula for the calculation of the noise figure the values used in the known method for cold and hot noise temperature through corresponding noise power levels are expressed can. The result of this knowledge Measure according to the invention that for the determination of Noise figure is not the usual broadband Noise power from a separate noise source for the measurement is necessary, but that there is also a level for it a sine generator is suitable. The generation of two sine signal levels of different sizes on one Frequency generator is much easier to implement than the use of a separate one and switchable diode noise source. Still it is Measurement very accurate, since it is still the known one Calibration method for the previous determination of the Self-noise of the level meter is applied.
The invention can be particularly advantageous Procedure with a usual spectrum or Network analyzer using a Spectrum analyzer (tracking generator) as Has sine wave generator whose output signal is above a calibration divider with defined output levels is adjustable. With such an analyzer higher Sensitivity and level measurement accuracy in one wide frequency band, the noise figure can be arbitrary electronic measuring objects such as components, amplifiers and the like can be determined simply by the output of the tracking generator during the Calibration process immediately with the neighboring one Input of the actual analyzer is connected and then with two different output levels Calibration of the analyzer is made and then then between the output of the tracking generator and the input of the analyzer the measurement object is interposed and then again with the the actual measurement at two different levels is carried out. Via the built-in output calibration divider the tracking generator can do the two different levels in a simple way can be set. The size of these two different levels are theoretically freely selectable. Because the ones added by the measurement object Noise levels, however, are generally very small these levels should not be too high, otherwise the Analyzer the differences between the output signal of the tracking generator at the input of the test object and the Output signal of the object can no longer resolve. It is therefore advisable to use a frequency generator use, which allows very low output levels adjust how this with the tracking generator of the Analyzer with up to -120 dBm is possible. The first Signal level of the tracking generator is arbitrary adjustable and thus to the noise power of the respective Customizable object.
The measurement according to the invention is practically everyone's any frequency of the total frequency band of the Tracking generator feasible, for example also at low frequencies. The noise figure determination after the Invention is using an analyzer with Tracking generator not only for selected discrete Single frequencies possible but it's also a automatic measuring process over the whole Frequency range of the analyzer possible. The Calibration measurement can either immediately during the incremental advance the frequency for each discrete frequency step before the actual object measurement be done, or it will be in a first Calibration process first at selected measuring points calibration within the total frequency band performed and then in a second Measuring process the actual object measurement. Important is, that in each case the subsequent evaluation Calibration values and measured values for frequencies are taken into account, which are within the bandwidth B of the level meter.
The invention is based on a schematic drawing of an embodiment explained in more detail.
The figure shows a commercial one Spectrum analyzer from Rohde & Schwarz described in data sheet PD756.7142.12 with a frequency selective level meter S, which in Frequency range tunable between 100 Hz and 2 GHz is and with a very sensitive RF preamplifier has low self-noise. The tuning oscillator of the frequency selective working according to the overlay principle Level meter S by a wobble device automatically in the given frequency range is tunable, but also by hand any discrete frequency of the Total frequency range is adjustable with a tracking generator integrated in the device (tracking Generator) G synchronized, its output frequency at the output socket "A" with one by one built-in calibration divider precisely defined adjustable Level is available. Through the calibration divider first very small level P₁ on the order of -120 dBm, which corresponds to the respective measuring object M is chosen arbitrarily. In addition, in contrast, a constant value lower level P₂ set on the calibration divider of the generator G.
Daraus kann dann in bekannter Weise die Rauschzahl F berechnet werdenDuring a first calibration measurement, the output A of the generator G is connected directly to the input "E" of the level meter S and thus the level measurement values P 1K and P 2K corresponding to the intrinsic noise are measured. Subsequently, the measurement object M with the bandwidth B M is interposed between the output of the generator G and the input of the level meter S, the two levels P 1 and P 2 are fed in again at the same frequency and the level measurement values P 1M and P 2M occurring at the output of the measurement object M are measured. The noise temperature T M is then indicated in the figure by the formula from these level values calculated, with the Boltzmann constant, and B S k, the bandwidth of the level meter is S. The noise figure F can then be calculated from this in a known manner
The noise figure measurement using this method can either at only a single discrete frequency of the Tracking generator G can be determined or with several predetermined frequencies of one by the measurement object predetermined range, which is also automatic performed by the dual operation of the level meter can be. Since in the method according to the invention Level P₁ and P₂ sine voltages of the sine generator G a faster measuring process is guaranteed, because during calibration the averaging in No level meter.
