Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a miniature electrode for a biosensor for substance analysis, which is based on an evaluation of a current flow or a voltage difference and is particularly advantageous for small analysis measuring devices in medical and environmental technology is reversible.
For a wide variety of applications there are two, three or Multiple electrode arrangements for biosensors with or without elec trolyte or known with or without a membrane. Most of the Biosensors use biologically active membranes, which are arranged at the head of the electrode or stretched over where due to an additional part of the disturbing components of the measuring rivers liquid or the measuring gas from the surface of the electrode arrangement be kept away. Nevertheless, after a long period of ge need residues on the electrode surfaces, which the measurement falsify the result. To remove these residues is in DE-OS 38 22 911 and JP-A 60-1 55 959 a current reversal between suggested measurements. A disadvantage of these methods is that in addition to the higher circuit complexity the formation of residues on the electrode surfaces is not is reduced, but residues already formed are eliminated will.
B. JP-A 63-2 43 863. To ensure the shortest possible measurement time for biosensors with a membrane reach, the membrane must be as thin as possible and close to the elec tread head. This is particularly the case with biosensors without Electrolyte of importance and is used in the known electrodes arranged by a slight curvature towards the membrane side strives, e.g. B. JP-A 63-2 43 863. This slight curvature enables but no optimal tension of the membrane over the electrode head, so that localized voltage losses can occur, wel che especially with miniature electrodes must be avoided. In practice, two and three-electrode arrangements are largely used Applications for biosensors found.
The so-called Clark electrode or three-electrode is known regulations according to DE-OS 38 22 886 and DE-OS 38 22 911. A known Clark's two-electrode arrangement consists of a measuring electrode de, which of a highly insulating solid electrode body and this in turn from a counter electrode in the form of a hollow cylinder surrounded, and from an electro surrounding the electrode lyt. To the disadvantage of potential instability in two-electric To avoid the arrangements was a three according to DE-OS 38 22 886 electrode arrangement with one supplied to the reference electrode Bias potential suggested. But this requires one much higher manufacturing costs for the biosensor, whereby the above Disadvantages with regard to membrane tension and reduction residue formation on the electrode surfaces as well cannot be eliminated.
To improve the potential stability of two-electrode arrangements it is also known to increase the area of the counter electrode enlarge, but this increases the dimensions of the biosensor. Wei In addition, a larger current load on the counterelectrode affects also negatively affect potential stability (see Dr. P. Schu ler, Oxi primer, introduction to dissolved oxygen measurement technology, P. 24 and p. 31).
It is therefore an object of the present invention, a miniature to create an electrode for a biosensor for all biochemi measuring methods and arrangements is suitable, a high Lang has time stability, an optimal tension of a membrane for Biosensors enabled and a low manufacturing cost required.
The object of the invention is achieved by the ge in claims 1 and 2 mentioned characteristics solved. It was known using the ten two-electrode arrangement for Clark biosensors an elec created trode arrangement with regard to potential stability and long-term stability the properties of known three and Multi-electrode arrangements for biosensors further improved and works even without electrolyte. So one could be essential cheaper solution can be achieved.
Anhand nachfolgenden Ausführungsbeispiels soll die Erfindung nä her erläutert werden.Based on the following embodiment, the invention is intended forth be explained.
Dabei zeigtIt shows
Fig. 1 eine erfindungsgemäße Miniaturelektrode. Fig. 1 shows a miniature electrode according to the invention. The miniature electrode has a measuring electrode 1 made of platinum wire, a surrounding post-insulating solid electrode body 2 and a counter electrode 3 surrounding the electrode body 2 , the basic structure of which can already be through the Clark electrode.
According to the head of the counter electrode 3 has the shape of a spherical cap, the head of the measuring electrode 1 and the electric body 2 are adapted to this spherical shape. Furthermore, the head of the counter electrode 3 has a central opening of diameter A, within which the head of the measuring electrode is arranged. The diameter A of the central opening of the counter electrode 3 is equal to or less than twice the diameter of the measuring electrode 1 . The counter electrode 3 is advantageously made of drawn silver sheet, whereby the mechanical stability of the miniature electrode is significantly improved.
It was found that the design of the head of the counter electrode 3 in the form of a spherical cap with a central opening and the small distance between the counter electrode 3 and the measuring electrode 1 at the head of the miniature electrode compared to known electrode arrangements, the electrical stability and the signal-to-noise ratio, ie the potential stability of the miniature electrode, we could be significantly improved. The conductivity conditions of a biosensor equipped with this miniature electrode could be decisively improved. The reason for this is the inventive design of the head of the miniature electrode, whereby an optimum voltage with a membrane lying on the head could be reached and disturbing residues from the measuring liquid can only settle to a small extent on the electrode surfaces, because of the small distance between Measuring electrode 1 and counter electrode 3 on the head of the miniature electrode and thus increased current flow, these residues are removed.
Has proven advantageous for the optimal tension of a membrane proved that the diameter of the spherical cap is equal to the diameter the miniature electrode is. Another benefit is the low susceptibility to failure and long life of the inventions miniature electrode according to the invention. The miniature according to the invention electrode can be practically used in all known biochemical Measuring methods and arrangements, such as for flow measuring sections, Immersion measurements or pot measuring cells and because of their low Dimensions (electrode diameter less than 3 mm) especially before Use partially in handy analysis measuring devices.
