Description
The invention relates to a radiation sensor for the detection of radiation-induced dissipation according to the preamble of claim 1.
The field of application extends focus on all areas of science and technology, in which are about the evaluation of radiation by a qualitative or quantitative detection of radiation-induced heat development or temperature change and / or subsequent processes of heat development or temperature changes. The invention Radiation sensor can be used in particular in the fields Optics, optoelectronics, laser technology and device construction for verification or used to assess radiation. The invention Radiation sensor is particularly suitable for applications in the infrared spectral range and / or for detection or for the evaluation of intense laser radiation.
Energy conversion processes are associated with dissipation. Here gives a dynamic system with few degrees of freedom energy to a dissipative system with many degrees of freedom (thermal bath) from. The dissipated, i.e. H. energy converted into heat changes the thermal state variable temperature of the dissipative System which is a function of the energy of the system and its interaction with the environment. So are also radiation-induced dissipative processes using temperature measurement detectable.
In order to arrive at quantified statements about the temperature, can be any, easily measurable physical Use property of a substance that has a unique function the temperature is, however, for a general Temperature scale to choose a substance-independent property is.
Non-selective (thermal) detectors for electromagnetic Radiation are essentially thermometers that are in the immediate vicinity Are in contact with a receiver surface in which the incident radiation dissipates via absorption processes. The registered temperature change represents in equilibrium a measure of the incident radiation flow.
Radiation thermometers (pyrometers) can be used according to the Thermometer types can be classified. The currently mainly thermal detector types used are: bolometer, Thermocouples and Golay cells based on the thermometer types: Resistance thermometers, thermocouple thermometers and gas thermometers are based.
Vieweg & Sohn Verlagsgesellschaft mbH, Braunschweig, 1976; A. Vasko, Infra-red Radiation, Iliffe Books Ltd., London, 1968]. Verschiedene Ausführungsformen von Strahlungsdetektoren sind z. B. in den Schriften DE 37 09 201 A1, EP 0 285 961 A1 beschrieben. This and other temperature measurement processes for the detection of radiation are to a large extent existing standard and original literature detailed [e.g. B. H. Neumann and K. Stecker, temperature measurement, Akademie-Verlag Berlin, 1983; F. Lieneweg, manual of technical Temperature measurement, Friedr. Vieweg & Sohn publishing company mbH, Braunschweig, 1976; A. Vasko, Infra-red Radiation, Iliffe Books Ltd., London, 1968]. Different embodiments of Radiation detectors are e.g. B. in the documents DE 37 09 201 A1, EP 0 285 961 A1.
The radiation fluxes to be measured with such detectors can be very small (up to <10 -9 W), so that maximum sensitivity is required. Further requirements relate to the fastest possible response, which is limited in particular by the dynamic burden of the heat capacity of the measuring system. Due to the usual use of thermoelectric converters in known thermal detectors, there is the additional problem associated with Wiedemann-Franz law that good electrical conductors are also good heat conductors. The thermal conductivity of the thermoelectric converter, including the supply lines, is therefore another static and dynamic burden.
From DE-OS 32 02 819 is a pyroelectric infrared detector with a special absorption layer known, which is characterized by good adhesion and Contactability distinguishes. To this end, it is suggested that the layers very thin from a chemically stable, electrically conductive connection from To create metals and their oxides. This connection can e.g. B. tin and Tin oxide or silicon and silicon oxide.
In DE-OS 28 43 571 there is an absorption layer for solar collectors Described metal, which is an oxide layer and at least one oxide of an im Metal of the solar panel contained element.
Patent 4,122,239 is a solar absorber for spacecraft known, consisting of a metal or metallized substrate, coated with a semi-transparent metal layer made of a nickel / chrome alloy and a second dielectric interference layer made of silicon oxide, zinc sulfide or Silicon dioxide.
A selective absorber is also advantageously suitable for solar collectors, as described in U.S. Patent 4,594,995. This consists of one on one Substrate applied 3-layer system, with a carbon-containing layer, a catalyst layer and a metallic infrared reflecting layer.
Ein sehr genaues und elegantes digitales Temperaturmeßverfahren beruht auf der Eigenschaft eines Quarzkristalls, seine auf dem piezoelektrischen Effekt beruhende Schwingungsfrequenz in Abhängigkeit von der Temperatur zu verändern [D. L. Hammond, A. Bernjaminson, Linear Quartz Thermometer, Instruments & Control Systems, Vol. 38 No. 10 (1965) 115-119; P. Schöltzel, Temperaturmessung mit Quarzsensoren, VDI-Z 112 (1970) 14-18; H. Ziegler, Temperaturmessung mit Schwingquarzen, Technische Messen 54 (1987), 124-129 bzw. Sonderheft Sensoren '88 (1988), 119-124]. A very precise and elegant digital temperature measurement process is based on the property of a quartz crystal, its on the vibration frequency based on piezoelectric effect to change from temperature [D. L. Hammond, A. Bernjaminson, Linear Quartz Thermometer, Instruments & Control Systems, Vol. 38 No. 10 (1965) 115-119; P. Schöltzel, temperature measurement with quartz sensors, VDI-Z 112 (1970) 14-18; H. Ziegler, Temperature measurement with quartz crystals, technical fairs 54 (1987), 124-129 and special edition sensors '88 (1988), 119-124]. Applications of this temperature measurement method in radiation sensors have not yet become known.
Quartz crystals are thin plates with electrodes made of trigonal crystalline α-quartz, which is created by applying a electrical voltage due to the piezoelectric effect in a thickness vibration can be offset. Through electronic Feedback creates an electromechanical oscillator with a temperature dependent frequency, the temperature dependence depends on the cutting angle of the quartz.
A. D. Ballato, T. J. Lukaszek, Higher-order temperature coefficients of the elastic stiffness and compliances of alpha quartz, Proc. IRE 50 (1962), 1812-1822]. The temperature response of the linear temperature coefficient α has a zero depending on the cutting angle Θ in the so-called AT cut, so that the frequency of the quartz f (T) = f₀ (1 + αT) practically no longer depends on the temperature [R. Bechmann, AD Ballato, TJ Lukaszek, Higher-order temperature coefficients of the elastic stiffness and compliances of alpha quartz, Proc. IRE 50 (1962), 1812-1822]. This cutting angle is therefore used today in almost all technical quartz applications, such as. B. in high-precision digital time measurement or quartz crystal monitoring of layer thicknesses in coating processors. For temperature measuring quartz, however, the HT cut is advantageous because it provides a maximum linear temperature coefficient α of around +90 · 10 -6 K -1 , which means a frequency change of 0.001% per Kelvin in the application interval of 10. . . Corresponds to 770 K. Although this is a small measurement effect, it can be easily evaluated using purely digital methods due to the high stability and precision of the quartz crystals. An exact analysis of the temperature dependence of the resonance frequency reveals weak, systematic terms of higher order according to f (T) = f₀ (1 + αT + βT² + ΓT³). With the temperature coefficients typical of the HT cut α = 90 · 10 -6 K -1 , β = 60 · 10 -9 K -1 , Γ = 30 · 10 -12 K -1 , the non-linearity β / α is less than 10 - 3 ; it can e.g. B. can be easily corrected with microprocessor systems. This makes a quartz crystal with an HT cut, whose resonance frequency depends almost only linearly on temperature, ideally suited as a temperature sensor. An error of 0.002 K can be expected for calibrated sensors; relative temperature measurements can be carried out more precisely.
US 3 531 663).About the above Applications beyond that are through scripture US 3 164 004 arrangements with quartz crystals have become known, where the chemical interaction of quartz crystals with Ambient media for the selective detection of chemical processes was used. Furthermore, a quartz crystal with integrated Heating element for measuring electrical quantities known (U.S. 3,531,663).
The applicability of quartz crystal temperature sensors for the However, the previously known embodiments are available for detection of radiation counter that in the above Literature hermetically encapsulated Sensor elements are, whereby for heat conduction from the Capsule for quartz protective gases (e.g. helium) can be used. As a result, known quartz crystal temperature sensors are exclusive Touch sensors, the dynamic burden of which the thermal capacity of the actual sensor and the housing results, d. H. with every change in temperature this part must be warmed or cooled. The application options are due to the required immersion of the quartz crystal thermal sensor limited in the medium to be measured.

The invention has for its object a sensitive and fast radiation sensor to provide evidence of radiation-induced dissipation, in particular increasing the universality and flexibility shall be. The arrangement and configuration of the receiver area are subject to general no restrictions. It is also of minor importance Meaning whether it is the quartz crystal sensor element are so-called thickness transducers or bending vibrators. What is essential is only a maximum dependency of the Quartz crystal frequency from the temperature, for example at Quartz crystals can be achieved with the so-called HT cut can.
Irradiation of the receiving surface leads to dissipative Processes, so is the temperature change of the receiver surface due to contact with the quartz sensor element transmit the quartz crystal and then detected as a frequency change. This is both a qualitative proof of radiation-induced Dissipation and / or quantification of the Change in heat or temperature possible, depending on this from the specific task of relative measurements, possibly also to one Comparative quartz sensor element, or calibrations used can be. In principle, the type of radiation is subject no restriction. The is particularly useful However, radiation sensor according to the invention for the detection of electromagnetic Radiation.
Both for total radiation sensors and for selective sensors it is advantageous if the receiver surface has an absorber layer which is high in a wide spectral range Has absorbency. This absorber layer can be on an electrode and / or the quartz crystal of the quartz sensor element be arranged.
Effective absorber layers can be per se known manner from carbon and / or metal oxides and / or manufacture metals. The use is particularly favorable from so-called metal sponges (e.g. platinum sponge) highly dispersed metals.
Selective radiation sensors can be easily Realize way if the absorber layer further Layers or layer systems are upstream and / or downstream. It is useful if the absorber layer is a component of an interference layer system, which in particular favorable embodiments is a resonance system.
With the radiation sensor according to the invention, a sensitive one can be achieved and rapid detection of radiation, being universal and flexibility of the application have been expanded. Of the Radiation sensor is simple and allows immediate Obtaining digital signals that are free from interfering or distorting influences and processed can be. By avoiding thermoelectric converters and a reduced heat capacity becomes the static and dynamic Burden significantly reduced. The reduction in heat capacity succeeds by the radiation-induced dissipation in or on a low-mass layered receiver surface the quartz crystal temperature sensor. It is in principle conceivable that subsequent processes of radiation-induced dissipation (e.g. change in thermoelastic properties) or radiation (e.g. swelling) for detection and / or evaluation the radiation can be used.
Es zeigtThe invention is based on that shown in the drawing Embodiment are explained in more detail. It shows
Fig. 1 is a schematic representation of the front (a) and side view (b) of the radiation sensor according to the invention on the basis of the detection of radiation-induced dissipation by means of a quartz sensor element in the form of a thickness transducer, preferably for evaluating CO₂ laser radiation.
The embodiment of the radiation sensor according to the invention shown in Fig. 1 comprises a thick oscillatory quartz crystal wafer 1 located on opposite sides of the quartz crystal wafer 1 electrodes 2, the position shown in Fig. 1, even with conventional quartz crystal sensor elements common configuration have. According to the invention, the receiver surface 3 is arranged on one side of the quartz crystal plate 1 on an electrode 2 , which in a special exemplary embodiment is an absorber layer made of, for example, gold or platinum sponge. The direction of incidence of the laser beam is indicated in FIG. 1 by the direction of the arrow. In a special embodiment, the radiation from a CO₂ laser with a wavelength of 10.6 µm is used, which is to be assessed with regard to the energy or power area density. The quartz crystal plate 1 is made of synthetic α-quartz and held with elements, not shown, which can be electrical leads at the same time. The realization of the quartz sensor element is generally not subject to any restrictions. For the sensitivity of the radiation sensor, however, it is essential that the linear temperature coefficient of the resonance frequency of the quartz crystal is maximized. B. can be realized by the so-called HT cut.
However, follow-up processes should be possible in radiation sensors that are conceivable in principle of radiation or radiation-induced dissipation used to detect and / or evaluate the radiation can also have a temperature-independent frequency Quartz crystals are used, the z. B. the so-called Own AT cut.
Evaporated and / or baked metal coatings made of silver, gold or other precious metals serve as electrodes 2 . These electrodes 2 are connected via electrical connecting elements, not shown, to electronic units, also not shown, which are used to supply an excitation voltage, to obtain the measurement signal and to compensate for systematic errors. The receiver surface 3 can be used as an absorber layer using known coating methods, such as. B. vapor deposition or sputtering in compliance with the deposition conditions required for the respective layer-forming substance or for the absorption properties. It is particularly expedient if one of the electrodes 2 and the receiver surface 3 are produced in a single process step, for example by changing from gold to gold sponge, by variation of the deposition conditions known per se. Adhesion promoter between the gold electrode and the quartz crystal plate can be expedient.
As a result of the electrode arrangement shown in FIG. 1, when oscillating voltages with guide values of a few volts are applied, the quartz crystal plate 1 is set into a thickness-shear oscillation due to the piezoelectric effect. The temperature response of this frequency has a maximum in the so-called HT cut. The frequency of the quartz f (T) = f₀ (1 + αT) changes in the application interval of 10. . . 770 K with the linear temperature coefficient α characteristic of the HT cut of around +90 · 10 -6 K -1 by approx.
If there is now due to irradiation of the receiving surface 3, for example by intense CO₂ laser radiation (continuous wave or pulse) as a result of absorption processes in a temperature change delta T 'of the receiving surface 3, it is also in the quartz crystal wafer 1 by heat transfer to a temperature change delta T, which with a high Precision and stability can be demonstrated by electronic units as a frequency change δf = f₀ (1 + αδT). With appropriate calibration of the quartz sensor element, for example with officially calibrated platinum resistors, the corresponding temperatures can also be determined with a high degree of accuracy. With the measurement variables obtained in this way, properties of the radiation, for example the energy and power surface density, can be determined. With the radiation sensor according to the invention, it is possible in an experimentally and methodologically simple manner to detect radiation qualitatively and quantitatively quickly, sensitively and stably, the implementation of total radiation sensors or selective radiation sensors being possible in a simple manner with easy signal interpretation. Since the type of radiation is generally not subject to any restrictions, the application is highly universal and flexible. As a result of the immediate acquisition of digital signals, the measured values obtained can be processed and forwarded free of disturbing or distorting influences. The static and dynamic properties of the radiation sensor are improved in particular by avoiding thermoelectric converters and by reducing the thermal capacity of the sensor. The radiation sensor according to the invention is particularly for the infrared spectral range as an IR detector, laser calorimeter and. Like. Can be used.
