Von Zeit zu Zeit wird dieser angehoben, wobei der Wasserdruck die Schlämme in die untere Kammer drückt. Bevor Wasser nachlaufen kann, schließt der Stempel (17) wieder und das, in der oberen Kammer zurückgebliebene Wasser kann über die Saugeleitung (21), über ein Filter (22) zur Pumpe (23) gelangen.
