Abstract

A composite film structure based on polyolefin polymers forms a barrier against smells, water vapour or oxygen and comprises a first layer of medium or high density polyethylene, a central barrier layer and a third layer of polyethylene, polyethylene copolymer or polypropylene. The barrier layer may be composed of either a vinyl alcohol, acrylonitrile or EVA based polymer or alternatively an extremely thin metal, metal oxide or silicon oxide layer. Application of the metal layer is by direct or transfer metallisation or by vapour deposition. USE/ADVANTAGE - The film is suitable for packaging esp. foods sensitive to moisture, oxygen, etc. and can be reused or recycled.

Description

The invention relates to a composite film based of polyolefins with barrier properties in particular against flavors, oxygen and water vapor.

It is known to use polyolefin laminating films Extrusion barrier properties, especially opposite Aromas, oxygen and water vapor. For this purpose, ethyl vinyl alcohol copolymers preferably used. Methods are also known Polyolefins with polyvinylidene chloride as a barrier material to coat. Other well-known composite films, which have barrier properties consist of Carrier films, e.g. B. oriented polypropylene, polyester, Polyamide or oriented polyamide, some of which are metallized or partially polyvinylidene chloride coatings exhibit. These carrier films are laminated against polyolefin films. Areas of application are especially sensitive to oxygen and water vapor Filling goods, mainly food, delicacies, Confectionery etc.

In addition to the above-mentioned composite films based on Polymers are also known in which one Layer consists of an aluminum foil.

All composite films previously used for packaging purposes have the disadvantage that their manufacture or their disposal from an environmental point of view are problematic. Films containing polyvinylidene chloride are this because of the chlorine content Polymers undesirable. The production of aluminum requires a lot of energy. With the polyolefin laminating films with a barrier layer made of ethyl vinyl alcohol copolymers this barrier layer has so far been relative thick. So these and other composite films are involved to a packaging material that two or more different materials in high proportions contains. This will reuse it (Recycling) of packaging waste more difficult.

Wiederaufbereitung bieten. Die Folien sollen gleichzeitig gute Barriereeigenschaften aufweisen. It is an object of the present invention to provide composite films to create the outlined disadvantages of the stand Avoid technology and improved ways to Offer disposal or reprocessing. The slides should also have good barrier properties.

Surprisingly, it was found that this task can be solved by a three-layer film, the The outer layers consist of polyolefin films, between which is arranged a relatively thin barrier layer. Because both outer layers are made of the same or very similar Material, the disposal of the film is facilitated. The relatively thin barrier layer only forms a small proportion of the total composite film and affects reprocessing and reuse of the packaging material. It was surprising that despite the thin layer of the barrier layer reliable packaging quality is achieved.

The invention therefore relates to a composite film initially mentioned type, which is characterized by  a first, made of medium or high density polyethylene existing layer, a middle barrier layer and a third, made of polyethylene with a density of 0.90 to 0.96, Polypropylene or polyethylene copolymer existing Layer.

The barrier layer advantageously consists of either a polymer based on vinyl alcohol, acrylonitrile or ethyl vinyl alcohol. These barrier materials are known per se, but have so far been larger Layer thickness used.

The barrier layer can advantageously alternatively also one by direct or transfer metallization applied or evaporated metal, metal oxide or Silicon oxide layer with a layer thickness of 100 to 400 angstroms (1 Å = 10⁻¹⁰ m). This layer thickness from 100 to 400 angstroms compared to the previous used aluminum foils with much larger Layer thickness (7-12 µm = 70,000-120,000 Å) below Environmental considerations represent a significant improvement. Nevertheless, a high barrier effect is achieved. The aluminum layer is so thin that it can be recycled not disabled.

The first layer is advantageously between 20 to 100 microns thick; the third layer advantageously has one Layer thickness of 10 to 40 microns.

Since packaging is usually with references to their The composite film is content and also printed with advertising advantageous on one of its outsides or on the inside of the first layer printed. This can be a sticker or an additional Outer packaging can be avoided, so that the environmental impact is further reduced.

The invention also relates to the use of an inventive Composite film for the production of packaging. In particular, the composite film according to the invention used advantageously for the production of packaging bags. This is made of polyethylene, PE copolymer or polypropylene existing third layer of the product facing. These polymers have good heat sealing properties on, so that the bags by a simple Heat sealing processes can be welded.

The bags are designed to hold a wide range of products suitable. For example, pastries, peanuts, but also reliable mayonnaise, ketchup or mustard be packed.

Those produced from the composite film according to the invention Packaging can also be used after use Can be reused if it is "Post Consumer Waste "that is not too dirty is. The cleaned, emptied packaging, Wraps and the like are torn and with virgin material and material of others Origin, but the same monomer structure, mixed and melted. From them you can then inferior products such as garbage bags, foils, flower pots and the like.
