Description

Addendum to patent q.07792. The glasses described in patent 407792 are thickly layered with an appearance similar to that of well-translucent porcelain. Although the type of light transmission for the electrotechnical purposes mentioned in the invention of the main patent is immaterial per se, a completely transparent and colorless glass may be preferable if the dielek. Irish resistance is almost as good as that of the glasses, which appear cloudy like porcelain. A benefit of the clear, colorless glass would be e.g. B. consist in the fact that inan the large: thick-walled insulators can check for tensions in the glass mass with the known optical aids. In particular, glass insulators of this type offer the advantage over the known porcelain insulators that they can be constantly checked during manufacture by means of the voltage test; Likewise, this check can be carried out on the body when the body is removed prior to installation. Such glasses are obtained, incidentally fusible at considerably low furnace temperatures, which as dielectrics withstand high voltages quite well, while at the same time they are perfectly clear and of excellent colorlessness if they do not contain the ammonium oxide content of the glasses specified in your claim to the invention of the main patent reduced to a residual content of about a quarter of the glass weight and introduced barium oxide instead of pure. For example, a glass of this kind with I350 ° C to I450 ° C convenient to melt tind to process at appropriate temperatures at the furnace when v the following mixing ratio of the glass-forming oxides * ihlt boron trioxide 12, - Siliziurndioxyd 33, aluminum 25, barium oxide 3o .

Such a glass is also extremely hard and mechanically of high thermal resistance, at the same time completely water-clear and transparent and, made from pure raw materials, just as colorless as the best optical ones Glasses. With regard to chemical resistance, in particular weather resistance, it can be placed alongside the best chemical resistance glasses.

The high thermal resistance is mainly due to the extraordinarily large one, combined with the high 'alumina and barium' content strength of the material due to boric acid.
