Abstract

Thermoplastic polyurethanes are used as hot melt adhesives for bonding polyolefines. The polyurethanes are obtd. from one or more diisocyanates and both long chain and short chain diols, e.g. polyetherdiols and polyesterdiols or their mixts., by extrusion, spraying or foam moulding. The hot liquified adhesive is applied to the polyolefine surface; and the treated surface is then pressed to plastic or other material surfaces. ADVANTAGE - The process avoids the need for extensive pre-treatment of the polyolefine surface, and provides strong durable bonds.

Description

Technologically, the invention relates to the bonding of Polyolefins with plastic or with other materials.

So kennt man Dispersionskleber. For gluing polyolefins with plastic or with Different adhesives are known for other materials. So knows one dispersion adhesive. But you also know hot glue Base of synthetic rubber and the like. Become hot glue also referred to as hot melt adhesive. The one with the known ones Adhesive connections produced by adhesives meet the requirements often not. The known adhesive connections are in particular especially sensitive when used in conjunction with polyethylene against shear stresses. The stretch measured according to DIN 53 455 tension remains with a bond between polyethylene and polyethylene well below 50%. As part of the known measures for gluing of polyolefins, in particular of polyethylene and poly propylene, the surfaces must be changed so that despite their low surface energy and their non-polar Character can develop adhesive forces. In practice chemical pretreatments (etching, flame treatment gen, corona treatments, low pressure plasma procedures) puts. All of these processes lead to an oxidation of the top plastic layer and thus for the installation of acid molecules of matter. There is always a risk of over-treatment lung ", which reduces the strength of the adhesive bond becomes.

The invention has for its object to provide under Use of which materials as adhesive a safe Ver bonding of polyolefins with plastic or with other works  substances that can also be achieved through a high Shear strength and high yield stress values.

Tetramethylenoxidether) einge setzt. To achieve this object, the invention relates to the use of a thermoplastic polyurethane which is set up for the production of plastic products by injection molding, extrusion or blow molding in the case of thermoplasticization with the aid of a plastic screw press, and which is based on the polyaddition principle from the basic raw materials diisocyanate, long-chain diols and short-chain diols , Has been produced as a hot melt adhesive for the bonding of polyolefins with plastics or with other materials, with the measure that a polyether or a mixture of a polyether with a polyester is used as long-chain diols, and with the further requirement that the thermoplastic Poly urethane liquefied and applied to the surfaces to be glued as an adhesive film, the adhesive films being pressed apart in a sufficiently liquid state. It is understood that this pressing is carried out until sufficient hardening has taken place. A preferred embodiment of the invention works with polyether carbonate urethane. A C 3 ether or a C 4 ether (polypropylene oxide ether or tetramethylene oxide ether) is preferably used as the polyether.

The thermoplastic polyurethanes which are used according to the invention as hot glue in the stated use are known, but have hitherto only been used for the production of plastic products by injection molding, extrusion or blow molding and are thermoplasticized using a plastic screw press (cf. Bayer Bayer printing company) Thermoplastic elastomers, Desmopan ", edition 5/87, order number KA 30593). Surprisingly, these thermoplastic polyurethanes function as hot glues as indicated. In this respect, they meet all requirements. In particular, they are sufficiently abrasion-resistant as an adhesive in an adhesive connection and largely resistant to solvents and chemicals. It goes without saying that the surfaces to be glued need cleaning. However, a pretreatment of these surfaces is not necessary in the context of the invention. In this respect, the subject of the invention is the specified use with the proviso that the hot glue is applied to an untreated, in particular unoxidized, plastic surface or untreated plastic surfaces. It is within the scope of the invention that the adhesive films are allowed to cool and are heated and melted again at a different time and, if appropriate, at a different location, and the bonding is carried out. The contact pressures are relatively low. So you can work with a contact pressure of less than 5 N / cm 2 .

The advantages achieved result from the fact that at Strength tests according to DIN 53 455 with an overlap Polyethylene / polyethylene adhesive value of over 60% is achieved with a corresponding polyethylene / Steel has a strength of approx. 55%.
