Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an electric water heater with a water container and a tubular heater arranged in the water container, wherein the tubular heater has a protective tube and one arranged in the protective tube Resistance heating has, the protective tube from anodic passivable ren, electrically conductive material, there is a counter in the water tank Electrode is provided or the water tank or part of the water container forms a counter electrode and between the protective tube and the Ge operational electrode there is a protective voltage and the protective tube is connected as an anode.
The well-known electric water heater from which the invention is based (cf. DE-OS 31 05 922) has a hairpin-shaped heater as a tubular heater loop on, which is led out of the water tank at both ends. The protective tube of the tubular heater consists of an anodically passivable Material, e.g. B. made of titanium, and is on the outside with an activation coating made of platinum.
By applying a DC voltage between the protective tube and that of one Limescale deposits form part of the counter electrode prevented on the protective tube of the tubular heater. Through the additional acti The protective tube also has the function of an inert coating anode for the cathodic corrosion protection of the water tank.
In the known electric water heater, on the one hand protection current densities of a few μA / cm 2 are used , and on the other hand the heating power of the resistance heater is limited to a relatively low level, namely to values of around 2 to 3 W / cm 2 . The possible heating power of a resistance heater is therefore only used to a limited extent, which results in relatively long heating times.
The teaching of the invention is based on the known elek trical water heater to design and develop that he can be used in a wide variety of ways.
The electric water heater according to the invention, in which the previously up showed task is solved, is characterized in that the protective tube and the counter electrode to a protective current density of at least 50 to 70 µA / cm² are designed. According to the invention it has been recognized that a high Current density of the protective current has a number of advantages. Through the high current load on the tubular heater will cause a lime scale on its Surface completely avoided. At the same time, however, it also becomes an otherwise Precipitation caused by a high temperature of the water in the water tank Avoid limescale in the water tank. This allows the invention electric water heaters also in the context of washing machines or dishwashers machines are used. Corresponding areas of application also exist in other technical fields.
In the electric water heater according to the invention, the resistance is heating preferably in an electrically insulating material, in particular others embedded in magnesium oxide.
The very high operational current density of the protective current according to the invention allows it to work with high heating powers of the resistance heater. In place of the few W / cm 2 of the electric water heater of the prior art, the resistance heater of the electric water heater according to the invention can have a specific power output of more than 6 W / cm 2 up to 40 W / cm 2 , based on the surface of the protective tube, preferably operated with a specific power of 20 to 40 W / cm 2 . It is obvious that the heating times that can be achieved with this are considerably shorter than in the prior art.
For use as an anode has been taken into account the high protection current density according to the invention a design of the tubular heater as a heater cartridge proven to be particularly useful.
In der Zeichnung zeigtFurther refinements and developments of teaching are the subject of white ter claims. For the rest, this is only an off exemplary embodiment of the invention referenced drawing. The electric water heater shown in Fig. 1 has been known for a long time or so in similar form from the basic structure. This water heater first has a water tank 1 , which is not isolated in the embodiment shown here Darge; it is an electrically heated water heater. Such a water tank 1 usually consists of a provided with a surface protection Me tallblech and is often double-walled in other embodiments, so then consists of an inner jacket made of galvanized or preferably enamelled steel sheet, (tinned) copper sheet or hard porcelain, from an outer jacket , for example from painted steel sheet, and from an intermediate thermal barrier layer, for. B. from cork, glass wool or heat-insulating foam plastics. Generally applies to electrical hot water heaters of the type in question DIN 44 901, to which reference may be made here.
In the water tank 1 of the electric water heater, a tubular heater 2 is arranged. The tubular heating element 2 has in the illustrated From operation example in the usual manner a coming with the water in the container 1 be water-sensitive in Berühung protective pipe 3 and a pipe in the protection 3 are arranged resistance heater 4 on. Such a resistance heater 4 has heating elements from heating conductor materials through which electrical current flows. Heating conductor materials are metallic or non-metallic materials, such as nickel-based alloys, noble metal compounds or tungsten and molybdenum alloys, but also silicon carbide and molybdenum disilicide, as well as carbon and graphite, as well as doped semiconductor materials with a more modern composition. All Heizleiterwerkstof fen has in common that heat is generated to a considerable extent by current flow.
The tubular heater 2 can be designed in a manner known per se as a heating loop or heating coil and can be guided out of the water tank 1 at both ends. In the embodiment shown here and preferred in this respect, however, the tubular heater 2 is designed as a heating cartridge, that is, it is led out at one end from the water tank 1 and closed at the other end in the water tank 1 . In Fig. 1 you can clearly see the here executed as a helical resistance wire heating element of the resistance heater 4 , the one hand directly, on the other hand via a return line with a larger cross section with connecting lines 5 for connection to a supply voltage Ver connected. A large number of other types of construction for the resistance heater 4 are conceivable and can be found by the person skilled in the art; a particularly preferred design of the resistance heater 4 will be described later in detail.
In the embodiment shown here and preferred in this respect, the electrical resistance heater 4 is embedded in an electrically insulating material 6 . The material 6 must meet two requirements, namely on the one hand electrically insulating, on the other hand have the highest possible thermal conductivity, so that there is a high heat transfer from the resistance heater 4 to the water in the water tank 1 . Various materials are known here, in particular magnesium oxide has proven to be expedient.
In the water heater shown here, the protective tube 3 consists of an inert, electrically conductive material. Part of the water tank 1 bil det a counter electrode 7 . Operationally, a DC voltage is present between the protective tube 3 and the counter electrode 7 . The protective tube 3 is connected as an anode, ie it is at a higher electrical potential than the counter electrode 7 . The protective tube 3 thus has, in addition to the mechanical protective function for the resistance heater 4 , an electrical function as an anode of an electrical protective circuit which is completely separated from the heating circuit. This electrical protective circuit with the corresponding polarity of the protective tube 3 as an anode has the result that there are no more limescale deposits on the protective tube 3 . For the rest, it is basically the same in which way the heat is generated in the tubular heating element 2 . In principle, the anodic loading of the protective tube 3 in the electrical protective circuit could also be realized if there was no resistance heating in the interior of the protective tube, but another heating, for example a catalytic heating element or a liquid heating medium.
Titanium, tantalum or niobium or titanium, tantalum or niobium compounds or alloys are recommended for the protective tube 3 .
For anodic activation of the surface of the protective tube 3 , it may be advisable to provide it with an activation coating at least on the outside. According to the preferred teaching, this consists of mixed noble metal oxides.
In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the protective tube 3 is held due to the design of the tubular heater 2 as a heating cartridge in a single Iso lationsdurchführung 8 in the wall of the water tank 1 . The protective tube 3 protrudes through the insulation bushing 8 and offers a free area on the outside of the water tank 1 , which serves as an electrical connection 9 for the protective tube 3 in the electrical protective circuit. The connecting lines 5 are guided through an electrically insulating seal 10 in the protective tube 3 , which closes the protective tube 3 at the bottom in FIG. 1, which protrudes from the water tank 1 and is otherwise open.
The previously explained use of the water container 1 as a counter electrode 7 for the protective tube 3 connected as an anode in the electrical protective circuit has a particular additional advantage, namely that of cathodically protecting the inner upper surface of the water container 1 against corrosion. At the counter electrode 7 connected as the cathode and thus on the inner wall of the water container 1 , corrosion processes cannot take place, or can take place only considerably more slowly than usual.
B. die EP-OS 01 56 221).Of course, the counter electrode could also be placed separately in the water be used container (see e.g. EP-OS 01 56 221).
For the electric water heater shown here, it is now essential that the protective tube 3 and the counter electrode 7 are designed for a protective current density of at least 50 to 70 μA / cm 2 , so that in operation between the protective tube 3 and the counter electrode 7, a protective current can flow with a minimum current density of 50 to 70 µA / cm 2 . The advantages of this requirement have been explained in the general part of the description.
For the electric water heater shown is also important that the resistance heater 4 a specific to the surface of the protective tube 3 be specific power of more than 6 W / cm 2 to 40 W / cm 2 , preferably from 20 to 40 W / cm 2 has. This can either drastically increase the heating power, so that the heating-up times are shortened, or, with the same heating power, the tubular heating element 2 can be made considerably smaller than was previously the case. This is associated with cost savings which practically compensate for the higher costs of the special, inert material of the protective tube 3 .
The required DC voltage between the protective tube 3 and the counter electrode 7 is expediently controlled or regulated via a potentiostat (see also EP-OS 01 56 221). For the electric water heater according to the invention, a particularly preferred design now applies, which is characterized in that the potentiostat is designed as an interrupter potentiostat and that for a given, the required minimum current density-defining target potential via the interrupter function, a control or regulation of the total current is ensured. In this way, the sufficient cathodic corrosion protection of the water tank can be ensured without great difficulty.
So far in electric water heaters of the type in question not known self-regulating resistance heaters with PTC thermistors been used. PTC thermistors are components with a large positive Temperature coefficients and consist for example of certain metal alloys, e.g. B. from tungsten alloys, or from doped semiconductors, e.g. B. doped titanate ceramic. For a PTC thermistor is a leap Increase in resistance in a narrow temperature range is typical, whereby bistable behavior is often prescribed. The bistable behavior PTC thermistor means that this also has its high resistance retains when the temperature has dropped dramatically. A PTC thermistor with such bistable behavior only comes back into its state according to resistance when the resistance heating is total from the utility supply voltage has been disconnected.
Based on the teaching according to the invention, it is now also possible in the present case for the resistance heater 4 to have at least one PTC thermistor element 11 . In here, and preferred embodiment shown in FIG. 2 and FIG. 3, the heating resistor 4 is made even completely from several PTC elements 11. Because of the absence of the risk of limescale on the protective tube 3 and the associated build-up of heat, the working conditions of the PTC thermistor elements 11 can be easily and reliably calculated beforehand, so that it is certain that the self-regulating function of the PTC thermistor elements 11 will not occur in normal, everyday operation. but that it only occurs and leads to a shutdown of the resistance heater 4 when there really is an emergency.
The PTC thermistor elements 11 are made in the exemplary embodiment shown here from a pressed material and require the assignment of electrical contact elements 12 , since otherwise they can not be easily electrically con tacted. For the electrical connection between the Kaltlei terelements 11 and the electrical contact elements 12 , a certain contact pressure be required, which can be generated, for example, by a shrunk-on silicon insulation. In the embodiment shown here and in this respect, be preferred that the PTC elements 11 are embedded in the electrically insulating material 6 , in particular in magnesium oxide, under pressure. Strictly speaking, it is here that the protective tube 3 is rolled with inserted PTC thermistor elements 11 , contact elements 12 and insulating material 6 for generating pressure.
Fig. 3 shows the structural design of the water heater according to the invention of this embodiment particularly clearly and shows that here the PTC elements 11 are strip-shaped and are arranged approximately symmetrically to the longitudinal axis of the protective tube 3 , the contact elements 12 are executed c-semicircular-strip-shaped and with the flat sides are arranged adjacent to the flat sides of the PTC thermistor elements 11 and this arrangement is embedded in an inner cylinder made of the insulating material 6 , in particular magnesium oxide. Fig. 2 makes it clear how the electrical, rail-like connection of the contact elements 12 to the connecting lines 5 results naturally from the arrangement selected here.
With an appropriate setting of the PTC thermistor elements 11 , they can also be used to regulate the temperature of the water temperature in the water tank 1 , so that the PTC thermistor elements 11 receive no or practically no current when the desired temperature of the water is reached. In an alternate, adjustable set temperature of the water in the water tank 1, however, recommends an external temperature control with a temperature sensor in the water reservoir 1, in which case the function of the PTC elements 11 and ei nes PTC element into the heating resistor 4, which may otherwise be also performed on idem, is limited to a safety shutdown.
