The invention relates to a book copier for optical scanning of the both sides of an open book, with a book pad with two optically transparent, flat plates at an angle to each other and to form a straight ridge line next to each other are arranged, along which the book fold of the adjacent open book Book is alignable, a movable image scanner for scanning the book pages on the plates by means of light passing through the plates, a movable, band-shaped Photoconductor on the side facing away from the book pages Side of the plates at a distance from them parallel to the plane of the plate extends and an optical assigned to the image scanner Light guide, the first optical, facing the book contact surface Opening and a second optical opening facing the photoconductor, between which it extends.
A book copier of this type is known from DE-OS 36 37 074, that for making copies of the scanned book pages on electrophotographic Paths a movable, ribbon-shaped photoconductor has, which is at a parallel distance and above book contact surfaces extends. A led parallel to the book investment areas Image scanner has an optical light guide that is perpendicular to the respective book investment area and between this and the Photoconductor is arranged. In this known book copier the image scanner after scanning one page of the book moved the fold area over to then scan the other side of the book. Due to the required swiveling movement of the image scanning device there is an area in the fold area of the book that is not can be scanned.
It is the object of the invention, a book copier of the generic type Kind in such a way that to achieve a high scanning speed both sides of an open book can be scanned without loss of image, with simple handling, simple Device structure and compact device shape.
Erfindungsgemäß wird dies dadurch erreicht,According to the invention, this is achieved by
- - daß zwei gleichzeitig bewegbare Bildabtastvorrichtungen vorhanden sind,- That two simultaneously movable image scanning devices are available are,
That the one image scanner for scanning the one Book page and the second image scanner for scanning the second page of the book is designed and managed,
That each image scanner between one of the outer edge area the assigned plate adjacent outer end position and an inner end position adjacent to the ridge line can be moved is
- - daß beide Bildabtastvorrichtungen so miteinander gekoppelt sind, daß sich immer nur eine in der inneren Endstellung befindet, that the two image scanners are coupled to one another, that there is only ever one in the inner end position,
That each of the image scanning devices has a light guide and
That the light guides are arranged so that the first, the book contact surface facing optical aperture, related to the level of the Book contact surfaces, has a smaller distance from the ridge line as the second optical aperture facing the photoconductor.
The image scanning devices are in an advantageous embodiment of the invention movable by a common drive and each of the image scanners has one in the area of the ridge line of the book arranged deflection mirror, which makes scanning without loss of image is made possible.
Due to the inventive design and arrangement of the image scanning devices, the two pages of a book without a break at the same time can scan a high scanning speed without image loss reached.

An electrophotographic copier with a housing 1 has a storage cassette 2 for copy paper and an output 3 for finished copies. These are created with the aid of a conventional electrophotographic image generator 5 , which has a band-shaped, endless photoconductor 7 as well as known assemblies, such as charging station, toner station, fixing station, etc., which interact with it and are therefore not described in more detail.
The photoconductor 7 is guided over stationary guide rollers 9 , 10 , 11 and 12 such that it extends in the belt sections between the rollers 11 and 12 and 12 and 9 at a distance from the facing, upper side of glass plates 14 and 15 , the plane of the band-shaped photoconductor 7 in the straight sections located between the deflection rollers being parallel to the plane of the plates 14 and 15 . These are, in particular from FIGS. 3 and 4 can be clearly seen, arranged at an angle of 90 ° to one another for forming an inverted roof shape to each other and longitudinally to form their impact a straight ridge line 17, see Fig. 4. With its to the Ridge line 17 adjoining undersides, the plates 14 and 15 form a book contact surface 19 , 20 for a book 21 to be created from below, the book fold 23 of which can be aligned along the ridge line 17 .
The book 21 to be placed against the book contact surface 19 , 20 can be placed on a book carrier 25 which can be displaced within the housing 1 in three mutually perpendicular directions, which are indicated in FIGS. 1 and 2 by double arrows 27 , 28 and 29 . An open book 21 placed on the book carrier 25 can thereby be aligned relative to the contact surfaces 19 and 20 on the glass plates 14 and 15 so that regardless of the book thickness and format and regardless of where the book is opened the ridge line 17 extends along the book fold 23 and one book page lies against the surfaces 19 , 20 of the plates 14 and 15, respectively, so that the book pages can be read from above, ie through the glass plates 14 and 15 . By pulling the book carrier 25 forward in the direction of the double arrow 29 , the book 21 can be placed on the book carrier 25 and is accessible for turning the pages of the book.
In the space between the photoconductor 7 and the facing top of the plates 14 and 15 , two image scanning devices designated as a whole with 31 and 32 are arranged, which are mutually identical in mirror image. Each image scanner device 31 , 32 has at its inner end, ie the end closest to the ridge line 17, a first mirror 35 , which defines one of the adjacent book contact surfaces 19 , 20 facing the first optical opening, and at the other, outer end a second mirror 36 , one of which Defined photoconductor 7 facing second optical opening. As is illustrated in FIG. 4 by beam arrows 39 drawn in with a solid line, the mirror 35 throws light, which is reflected through the plate 14 from the book side resting against the book contact surface 19 , to a light guide 40 which runs parallel to the book contact surface 19 . As also indicated by beam arrows 43 drawn with solid lines, the light emerging from the light guide 40 reaches the second mirror 36 , from where it is reflected onto the photoconductor 7 . Corresponding to the positional arrangement of the first mirror 35 at the inner end of the image scanner, the mirror 35 receives light when the image scanner assumes the inner end position shown in FIG. 4, as is also shown in FIG. 3 with a solid line for the other image scanner 32 that of the ridge line 17 and thus the book fold 23 closely adjacent area of the book page in question. Because of the staggered arrangement of the second mirror 36, this light is transmitted from the latter to the photoconductor 7 at a point which is relatively far away from the ridge line 17 , ie from the corner region.
FIG. 6 shows further details of the light guide 40 , which is an elongated, strip-shaped body, on the long narrow sides of which the ends of a continuous row of optical fibers 45 open, only a few of which are designated by reference numbers in FIG. 6. The light guide 40 extends over the entire height of the scanning area, ie has a length which is adapted to the height of the largest book page to be scanned.
In addition to the light guide 40 , which forms the optical beam path for image transmission between the first optical opening defined by the mirror 35 and the second optical opening defined by the mirror 36 , each image scanning device 31 , 32 has a second light guide 48 , which corresponds in shape and dimensions to the first light guide 40 and abuts it broadly. The second light guide 48 forms an angled illumination beam path for the light of a light source 55 connected to the light guide 48 , which is arranged on a short narrow side of the light guide 48 ( FIG. 5), which forms the entrance to the same. The light emerging from the long narrow side of the light guide 48 falls on the first mirror 35 , from where it is thrown through the facing plate (the plate 14 in FIG. 4) onto the area to be scanned on the adjacent book page, as shown in FIG . 4 is indicated with a dashed arrow 51 beam. From Fig. 5 it can be seen that the angled beam path indicated by arrows 53 is formed by optical fibers in the light guide 48 .
Fig. 4 shows a drive for generating a reciprocating displacement motion shows in a schematically simplified representation of the image sensing devices 31, 32 along the plates 14 and 15 respectively. Each image scanner 31 , 32 is between an inner end position closest to the ridge line 17 , which is shown in FIG. 4 for the image scanner 31 and in FIG. 3 for the image scanner 32 with solid lines, and one of the outer edge region of the plate 14 concerned , 15 neigh disclosed outer end position movable, which is shown in Fig. 3 for the Bildab scanning device 31 with a solid line and for the Bildab scanning device 32 with a broken line. The drive has a drag chain 57 and 59 for each image scanner 31 and 32 . These run around idle sprockets, not shown, which are mounted laterally next to the outer edge regions of the plates 14 and 15 , and two in the region of the ridge line 17 next to the plates 14 and 15 , driven sprockets, of which in Fig. 4 only one sprocket 61 can be seen. The driven chain wheels 61 are connected to a drive shaft 62 , which represents a common drive element for both image scanning devices 31 and 32 , and can be driven in both directions of rotation, indicated by a double arrow 63 .
To operate the book copier, the book 21 in question is placed on the book carrier 25 after it has been brought into the pulled-out position shown in FIG. 2. After pushing back the book carrier 25 , this is adjusted in the direction of the arrows 27 and 28 until the book fold 23 is aligned along the ridge line 17 on the underside of the plates 14 , 15 and the pages of the book to be copied lie against the plates 14 , 15 .
To scan these pages of the book, the drive for the sliding movement of the image scanner 31 and 32 is now actuated, the chain wheels 61 being driven counterclockwise when the image scanner 31 is in the inner position shown in FIG. 4, the other image scanner 32 being shown in FIG Fig. 3 has a dashed line indicated outer end position. With the rotational movement in this direction of rotation, the image scanner 31 is now moved outwards and the other image scanner 32 simultaneously inwards until the image scanner 32 has scanned the entire book page up to the region of the book fold 23 and the image scanner 31 the area of the adjacent book page from the book fold 23 has scanned to the outer edge of the page. The light reflected from the scanned book page is transmitted via the first mirror 35 and the second mirror 36 to the photoconductor 7 , the image being transferred to the photoconductor 7 because of the mutual displacement of the mirrors 35 and 36 at one point even in the inner end position of the image scanning device 31 , 32 in question has a relatively large distance from the corner region, ie from the deflection region of the photoconductor 7 on the roller 12 .
In a subsequent scanning process, for the preparation of which the book carrier 25 is first shifted into the pulled-out position and the book pages are reversed accordingly before the book carrier 25 is inserted again, the scanning process takes place by a rotary movement of the chain wheel 61 in the opposite direction of rotation, ie when the image sensing devices 31 and 32, the lungs 3 drawn by a solid line in Fig Stel occupy., now in the clockwise direction, whereby the image pickup apparatus 31 to move from the outside inwards and the Page down caliper 32 from the inside to the outside.
It goes without saying that the photoconductor 7 is moved between the individual scanning processes, as is indicated by arrows 71 in FIG. 1, in order to produce an electrophotographic copy in the usual manner on the basis of the charge image formed in the previous scanning process by the exposure of the photoconductor 7 , which can be found in issue 3 of the device.
