Abstract

The safety device to release gas under excessive pressure inside a metal beer keg is formed by a weak zone in the wall of the keg which is forced outwards at a certain pressure. This zone can be a circular part (16) of e.g. the bottom of the keg concentric with a raised part (11) of the domed base, formed by a notched groove (14) on the outside, and intersecting a small circular depression (12). Alternatively a sharp groove can be made round the inside of a circular depression within the same zone. In other designs, a C-shaped notches formed close to the shoulder of the domed top of the keg, close to the end support on the keg.
