Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a device for covering and Clean the nozzle surface of an ink printhead with one on the nozzle surface adjacent cover element, which is a cutout has and on the nozzle surface between one of the nozzles openings covering the closed position and a nozzle opening openings through the cut-out opening position is slidable.
Such a device known from DE-OS 32 07 072 consists of one in front of the nozzle surface of an ink print head on this pivotally arranged sealing plate, which in A section of the nozzle area with sharp edges has and by means of a clamp against the nozzle surface is pressed. Seals depending on the swivel position of the sealing plate off the nozzle area of the ink print head in the closed position or gives the nozzle opening with its cutout in the open position Openings in the nozzle surface, while during the pivoting movement of the sealing plate the sharp edges of the cutout Wipe over the nozzle surface and clean it.
The swiveling movement of the sealing plate cannot be used conclude that dirt particles are present when the seal is closed plate are wiped away from the nozzle surface when opening transported back into the area of the nozzle openings will.
From DE-PS 29 19 727 is however only for covering device serving the nozzle surface of an ink print head known in which a in the write operation of the ink print head with this movably arranged cover tape by means of a mechanical actuator in the nozzle surface of the ink printhead covering closed position can be brought. By continuing transport of the masking tape before each covering the Nozzle area is achieved that the nozzles each time by a new tape section of the masking tape are closed. The Masking tape, which is optionally designed as an endless tape or in a tape cassette is stored on two winding spools guided such that it is in the closed position in the area between the ink print head and one to be printed by it Record carrier up to the nozzle surface and from there runs back over a pulley, so that a relatively large distance between the ink print head and the Record carrier is required. Is accordingly large hence the trajectory of the ink droplets from the nozzle openings conditions up to the record carrier, which means greater precision when ejecting ink and moving the print head required.
To avoid this problem, the DE-PS 29 30 490 a cover and cleaning device except half of the writing area of the ink printhead in one Parking position can be arranged during breaks is approached by the ink print head, but then exists the risk that the ink printhead will malfunction, e.g. remains unprotected in the event of a power failure.
The invention has for its object a device admit an Ab in each position of the ink printhead coverage and reliable cleaning of the nozzle surface guaranteed and at the same time minimal due to their construction Distance between the ink printhead and the one to be printed Record carrier enables.
According to the invention the object is achieved in that the device of the type specified the cover element from a band with a plurality of side by side in the band direction other cutouts exist that the tape in constant Contact is present on the surface of the nozzle and that there is a this drive transporting in a predetermined direction device attacks.
When the tape is transported in a given direction alternate between the writing mode and the pause in writing Ink printhead either the individual cutouts in the Band or the band lying between the cutouts cut one after the other in front of the nozzle openings the nozzle surface, the individual off in writing mode cuts the nozzle openings and in the Breaks in writing the individual sections of the tape Seal the nozzle surface. In this way, wipe in an advantageous manner Edges of the cutouts always in one direction, namely the Direction of transport of the tape over the nozzle surface, so that Do not transport dirt particles once they have been wiped away as is the case with a reciprocating motion would. In addition, the nozzle area of the ink print head is in every writing break every time with a new unpolluted one Section of the tape closed, so that a very total effective and reliable coverage and cleaning of the nozzles area is reached.
Another advantage of the device according to the invention is to be seen in the area between the ink print head and the record carrier to be printed have a minimal namely only the thickness of the tape corresponding space be claimed. The ink printhead can therefore be in almost any be arranged close to the recording medium, so that this is due to the short trajectory for the ink droplets Chen can be printed with high precision.
According to a preferred development of the fiction according to the device, the tape is stored in a tape cassette, which together with the ink printhead to be printing record carrier is arranged movably. Here is to be regarded as a major advantage that with regard to the An organization of the ink printhead and the ribbon cartridge on solutions can be used, which is technically one mature series product such as a dot matrix printer or types Wheel printer, each with an ink ribbon in an ink ribbon cassette have proven. So it can usually be used in dot matrix printers Hold the needle print head and the ribbon cassette in front seen and with drive means for the ribbon such as Winding mandrels and winding motor equipped printer carriage in the Principle unchanged for mounting the ink printhead and Recording of the associated tape cassette including the Belt transports are used, so that complex new constructions for installing the device according to the invention in a printer are not required.
Another advantage of placing the band in the band cassette is the simple interchangeability of the tape. A change of the band is then particularly necessary Lich if the tape from a tape supply, for example one Tape unwinding spool is removed and after a complete Passing the nozzle surface is dirty.
The period of use of the tape or the tape cassette can be advantageously increase by the fact that the tape as an endless band is formed and seen in its transport direction passes through a cleaning device behind the ink print head. The cleaning device preferably consists of a with a cleaning liquid, for example an aqueous one Solution impregnated with alcohol and surfactants Pillow, which the tape is guided past. The Cleaning the tape is also made easier by the fact that the tape made of a material with low wetting properties exists or is coated with ink; as an an example polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) may be mentioned for this.
In order to avoid possible ink errors even during longer pauses in writing incrustation in the area of the nozzle area of the belt covered by the belt To counteract ink printhead and to provide effective coverage To reach the surface of the nozzle, the strip passes through advantageously seen in its transport direction before ink printhead a humidifier. By moistening of the tape, preferably by passing the tape on one with a moisturizing liquid such as Polyethylene Glycol soaked pillow is achieved that the moisture holding liquid that wetting the band and the nozzle surface Keeps ink fluid and prevents the ink from drying out. Furthermore, the moisturizing liquid is caused by capillary forces in the gap between the nozzle surface and the sealing tape sucked in and forms a liquid cushion that the Closes nozzle openings.
It has been found that during the pauses in writing the ink hermetic sealing of the nozzle openings is not necessary because the nozzle surface is already at the beginning of the writing operation by transporting the tape past is cleaned. In this context, the tape in advantageously in the lying between the cutouts Belt sections with storage media to absorb the moisture holding liquid from the moistening device. These storage media can be used as absorbent pillows or be designed as pocket-like formations of the band; this results in the area of the nozzle openings Preventing micro-climate from drying in the ink. To also at long downtimes or storage times of the printer or when transporting the printer between the manufacturer and the To prevent customers from drying the ink, it is sufficient to just put a wedge between the platen and the inks Pinch the printhead so that the ribbon is firmly against the Nozzle surface is now hermetically pressed.
The endless belt is preferably cleaned in Direction of transport seen immediately behind the ink print head while moistening the tape immediately before the Ink printhead takes place so that the cleaning device and the humidifier accordingly separated are arranged differently. However, it is within the scope of the invention also possible a single combined cleaning and loading Moisture device to provide the cleaning liquid speed also serves to moisten the tape.
In order to avoid an unforeseen malfunction, e.g. a mains voltage failure, sealing the nozzle surface of the Ensuring the ink printhead is according to one more Education of the device according to the invention provided that the Drive device for the tape pre-springed tense spring mechanism that, depending on one Trigger signal the band in a covering the nozzle surface Closing position continues.
Zur Erläuterung der Erfindung wird im folgenden auf die Figuren der Zeichnung Bezug genommen, von denenTo explain the invention, reference is made to the figures below referred to the drawing, of which
Fig. 1 in Draufsicht einen Tintendruckkopf und eine Bandkassette mit einem Band zum Abdecken und Reinigen der Düsenfläche des Tintendruckkopfes zeigt und in Fig. 1 shows a top view of an ink print head and a tape cassette with a tape for covering and cleaning the nozzle surface of the ink print head and in
Fig. 2 of the ink print head and part of the tape are shown in perspective view.
Fig. 1 shows, as essential components of a series-working ink printer, a printing roller 1 for transporting a recording medium 2 lying against it and an ink printing head 3 , which is arranged on a printer carriage 7 opposite to one another along two guide rods 4 and 5 by means of a belt drive 6, axially parallel to the printing roller 1 the pressure roller 1 and the adjacent recording medium 2 is arranged.
The ink print head 3 contains ink channels (not shown) which, as shown in FIG. 2, open into a nozzle plate (nozzle surface) 8 with individual nozzle openings 9 , from which 2 ink droplets are ejected in the direction of the recording medium. The drive elements for ejecting the ink droplets are, for example, electrically controllable piezo elements, which are not visibly assigned to the individual ink channels in the interior of the ink print head 3 . The nozzle plate 8 is held by a fastening clip 10 on the ink print head 3 , on which two lugs 11 and 12 are provided for this purpose, into which the fastening clip 10 engages.
To cover and clean the nozzle surface 8 there is a band 13 which, as shown in FIG. 2, contains a plurality of cutouts 14 arranged equidistantly in the band direction. The cutouts 14 and their spacing from one another are dimensioned such that each cutout 14 is large enough to completely uncover the nozzle openings 9 in the nozzle surface 8 , and the band sections 15 lying between the cutouts 14 are each large enough to completely cover the nozzle surface 8 . In the area of the belt sections 15 , the belt 13 contains, on its side facing the nozzle surface 8, for example, pocket-like shapes 16 produced by embossing, in which a moisture-storing medium may be held.
As shown in FIG. 1, the tape 13 , which is preferably made of a material with low wetting properties compared to ink or is coated therewith, is designed as an endless tape and is held in a tape cassette 17 similar to an ink ribbon cassette, of which part of the wall is shown broken away in FIG. 1 to reveal a look inside the tape cassette 17 . The tape cassette 17 has an outlet opening 18 and an inlet opening 19 for the tape 13 , between which the tape 13 is guided outside the tape cassette 17 past the nozzle surface 8 of the ink print head 3 .
The tape cassette 17 is by means of two lateral axis approaches 20 and 21 by snapping into appropriately designed holding parts 22 and 23 on the printer carriage 7 so that they can be pivoted for service purposes, the tape 13 by pivoting the tape cassette 17 from the area in front of the nozzle surface 8 of the ink print head 3 can be brought out.
To transport the tape 13 , a drive wheel 24 is arranged inside the tape cassette 17 , which is looped on its outer circumference in the area between two pressure rollers 25 and 26 by the tape 13 . The drive wheel 24 is connected via a coupling (not shown here) on the underside of the tape cassette 17 to a drive motor 27 held on the printer carriage 7 . Instead of the drive motor 27 , a mechanical step switch mechanism is also conceivable, which converts the passing of the printer carriage 7 into a step movement of the belt 13 at a stationary stop.
Polyethylenglykol Verwendung.Inside the tape cassette 17 , the tape 13 passes in its transport direction 28 seen in front of the outlet opening 18, a humidifying device 29 , which consists of two liquid soaked with a moisturizing agent and on both sides of the tape between rib-shaped projections 30 of the wall of the tape cassette 17 holding pillow 31 . A hardly volatile solvent such as polyethylene glycol is used as a moisturizing liquid.
Seen in the transport direction 28 of the tape 13 lies in the tape cassette 17 behind the inlet opening 19, a cleaning device 32 , similar to the moistening device 29 also consists of two soaked with a cleaning liquid and between rib-shaped lugs 33 of the wall of the tape cassette 17 held cushion 34 . The cleaning liquid preferably consists of an aqueous solution with alcohol and surfactants. Instead of a separate arrangement of the moistening and cleaning device, a single combined device is also conceivable, in which the cleaning liquid is also the moistening liquid.
The transport of the tape 13 by the drive motor 27 takes place in such a way that in the writing operation of the ink print head 3, the tape 13 always comes to lie with one of its cutouts 14 in front of the nozzle openings 9 in the nozzle surface 8 of the ink print head 3 and so the nozzle openings 9 for ink ejection in the direction of the record carrier 2 to be printed. When changing from the writing operation of the inkjet print head 3 to a write pause, the tape 13 of the predetermined trans port direction 28 is moved so far that instead of the cut 14 from the adjoining tape section 15 arrives in front of the nozzle surface 8 of the inkjet print head 3 and covers it. The cut 14 wipes with its edge over the nozzle surface 8 and cleans it from accumulated dirt. Since the belt 13 is always transported in one direction, namely the transport direction 28 , it is ensured that dirt particles once removed from the nozzle surface 8 cannot be wiped back into the nozzle openings 9 . The band section 15 , which now covers the nozzle surface 8 during the pause in writing, had passed through the moistening device 29 some time before and was thereby wetted with the humectant stored there. In the pocket-like formation 16 of the band 13 opposite the nozzle openings 9 , a microclimate is therefore created which prevents the ink from drying out in the region of the nozzle openings 9 . Only when the printer is idle for a very long time may a hermetic sealing of the nozzle openings 9 be necessary, which can be accomplished in a simple manner by inserting a wedge between the printing roller 1 and the ink print head 3 , which firmly holds the tape 13 against the nozzle surface 8 now presses hermetically.
During the transition from a pause in writing to the ink print head 3 , the tape 13 is moved in the transport direction 28 to such an extent that a cutout 14 again reaches the nozzle surface 8 and releases the nozzle openings 9 . Here again, a cleaning wiping movement of the belt 13 takes place over the nozzle surface 8 . The tape 13 , which is contaminated with ink residues and other contaminants (eg paper dust) when passing the inkjet print head 3 , passes through the cleaning device 32 immediately behind its entry into the tape cassette 17 , where it is cleaned of the contaminants. In this way, a constant regeneration of the band 13 is achieved.
As shown in Fig. 1, the tape 13 takes up only a minimal space in the area between the nozzle surface 8 and the recording medium 2 to be printed, so that the ink print head 3 can be arranged very close to the recording medium 2 , which due to the short trajectory for the Ink droplets can be printed with high precision. The arrangement of the tape cassette 17 with respect to the inkjet print head 3 and the transport mechanism for the conveyor belt 13 are in principle the same as with a dot matrix printer or a type wheel printer with ribbon cassette, so that the printer carriage from a dot matrix printer or a type wheel printer in the same way also Recording the ink print head 3 and the tape cartridge 17 can serve.
