Bei der Gestaltung eines Fluggastsitzes sind die unterschiedlichsten Gesichtspunkte zu berücksichtigen. Das Sitzen darf man dabei nicht als einen statischen Zustand betrachten. Ein optimaler Sitz muß vielmehr den Wechsel zwischen den unterschiedlichen Sitzpositionen zulassen. Phasen der Spannung und Entspannung müssen einander abwechseln, um ein ermüdungsfreies Sitzen über längere Zeiträume zu gewährleisten. Der Rückenlehne kommt dabei eine entscheidende Bedeutung zu. Das Rückenlehnenprofil sollte im Bereich Hüfte bis etwa Mitte Rücken dem Verlauf der Wirbelsäule folgen. Wünschenswert ist auch eine Möglichkeit zur Verstellung der Rückenlehnen-Neigung (Recline). Die GB-PS 8 82 945 zeigt einen Fluggastsitz mit verstellbarer Rückenlehne in Fig. 3. Auch die DE-OS 19 00 079 betrifft einen Sitz, dessen Rückenlehne mit einem Drehlager versehen ist und deshalb in verschiedene Schräglagen eingestellt werden kann. Weil in einem Flugzeug die Sitze auf möglichst kleinem Raum untergebracht werden sollen, muß zwischen Raumbedarf und Sitzkomfort ein tragbarer Kompromiß gefunden werden.
