Abstract

The known sorption compositions for breathing apparatuses (respirators) for binding acidic gases, which compositions comprise a support having an impregnation of copper oxide and/or zinc oxide and alkali metal chromate exhibit poor stability to aging. The aim of the invention is to replace the chromate-containing sorption compositions by those of improved resistance to aging. This is achieved according to the invention by copper oxide and/or zinc oxide being applied, together with an alkali metal vanadate, to a support, e.g. activated charcoal. Particularly good sorption efficiencies are achieved if copper and zinc are applied as carbonates, together with alkali metal vanadate, from ammoniacal solution to the activated charcoal and the carbonates are then decomposed by heating.

Description

They are sorption materials for the chemical binding of acid gases known, which are used in filters of breathing apparatus. These materials consist of a carrier and an impregnation made of copper oxide and alkali chromate. They are also sorption masses known that additionally contain zinc oxide. Chromium-containing However, impregnations have poor resistance to aging on. This means that filters that are stored for a long time are supposed to be significantly oversized to sufficient protection against acid during storage To have gases. This will make the filters bigger, heavier and unwieldy, which is particularly undesirable for escape devices is. The aim of the invention is the chromium-containing impregnations to be replaced by those with better aging resistance. This is achieved in that instead of Chromate vanadate can be used in the impregnation. Will Copper carbonate and alkali vanadate together on one support, e.g. Activated carbon, applied and carefully heated, that is Copper carbonate completely or partially decomposed and a very effective impregnation for binding acid gases.

A similar effect is achieved if zinc instead of copper is used. It is particularly advantageous if copper and Zinc can be used side by side. The copper oxide alkali vanadate or zinc oxide-alkali vanadate impregnations also show prolonged storage no significant drop in chemical sorption ability. To expand the scope of the sorption Zinc chloride can also be added to the binding of ammonia be added.

Die Erfindung sei an zwei Beispielen erläutert:The invention is illustrated by two examples:

Ein so gefülltes Filter üblicher Größe weist eine gute Aufnahmekapazität für Chlor auf.1. 1 kg of activated carbon is mixed with an ammoniacal solution of 80 g basic copper carbonate and 40 g sodium vanadate soaked. The free-flowing activated carbon is then careful heated up to 140 ° C until no smell of ammonia is more noticeable. After cooling, the impregnation can nated activated carbon in a respiratory protection filter. A conventional size filter filled in this way has a good one Absorption capacity for chlorine.
Die weitere Verarbeitung geschieht, wie im Beispiel 1 beschrieben.2. 1 kg of activated carbon is mixed with an ammoniacal solution of 40 g basic copper carbonate, 40 g zinc carbonate and 40 g of sodium vanadate soaked. The further processing happens as described in Example 1.
A standard size respiratory protection filter filled with activated carbon, which has been impregnated in the manner described above, meets all performance requirements of DIN 3181 for type B filters.

Impregnations according to Example 1 as in Example 2 also have their initial sorption performance after long storage on.
