Abstract

The headstock housing (1-3) contains a hollow drive shaft (20) and a driven hollow spindle (4) with tool clamp member (50) actuated by a shaft (6) which is rotatably carried within the spindle and drivable by a shaft (21) inside the drive shaft. The two shafts are at right angles to the spindle and actuating shaft and coupled to it via respective bevel gears (10,7; 12,8). Two gears (10,12) are arranged on respective hollow (9) and coaxial lay shafts (11) which are parallel to the two shafts (20, 21) and carry respective spur gears (13,14) coupled to spur gears (19,22) on the two shafts via further spur gears (18; 15.17) rotatable and secured respectively on a further lay shaft (16) parallel to the shaft assembly.
