Abstract

Tubular package cmprises open-ended tube of rectangular cross-section made of flexible plastic sheet having its open end closed by an end cap. The end cap is made of folds, flexible, semi-rigid plastic sheet of heavier gauge than that of the tube and includes a rectangular central portion of length and width corresponding to the internal dimensions of the tube. At opposite sides of the central portion are integral, double-folded flat sheet portions forming inner side walls at right angles to the central portion and outer side walls folded back. The crease joining the two walls together defines a double layer, narrow slot generally equal to the thickness of the tube side walls being slidably inserted in the slots. The end walls of the tube adjacent the open end having aligned coplanar perforations which are engaged by integral tabs projecting from opposite ends of the end cap central portion when the cap is fitted on the end of the tube. Tabs and perforations form self-locking couplings which maintain the tube side wall between opposed folded end cap side walls.
