Zweck der vorliegenden Neuerung ist, die Verbindung zwischen Ober- und Unterschenkel derart herzustellen, dafsThe purpose of the present innovation is the connection between the upper and lower legs to be produced in such a way that

Die bisher gebräuchlichen Kniegelenke bestanden aus zwei getrennten, zu beiden Seiten angebrachten Scharnieren, welche aber infolge des steten Gebrauches sehr schnell klapperig wurden. M ist der Oberschenkel, N der Unterschenkel. Dieselben sind, um eine möglichst grofse Haltbarkeit und möglichste Leichtigkeit zu erzielen, aus dünnem Stahlblech getrieben. Die beiden Schenkel sind durch das Gelenk a in der Weise mit einander verbunden, dafs die zwei Schienen b b^l, mit welchen der Unterschenkel befestigt ist, durch das Rohr c fest mit einander, verbunden sind. In letzteres ist der Bolzen e eingeschliffen. Die zwei Schienen d d¹ zur Befestigung des Oberschenkels sind von einander getrennt. Da jedoch der Bolzen e mit Vierkant e¹ in die Schiene d¹ eingreift, so kann er sich in den kurzen Auflagerflächen der Schiene d nicht drehen, sondern mufs die zum Beugen des Beines nöthige Drehung in dem langen Rohr c ausführen, so dafs eine Abnutzung des Gelenks so gut wie ausgeschlossen ist, umsomehr, als die Augen der Schienen mit Ueberlappungen g über einander greifen. Diese Ueberlappungen bilden zugleich einen Anschlag g\ um die Beugung des Beines zu begrenzen. Um die Laufstelle zwischen Bolzen e und Rohr c schmieren zu können, sind die beiden Schmierlöcher f angebracht. Der Bolzen e ist durch Kopf und Mutter gesichert. M is the thigh, N is the lower leg. Um das Bein nach der bei jedem Schritt erfolgenden Beugung wieder zu strecken, dient das starke Gummiband h. Dasselbe ist unten in der Nähe des Fufses mit einer Schraube am Schienbein befestigt und oben mittelst des Hakens i in die Oese k eingehakt. Diese Oese ist mittelst Schraube an dem Steg / befestigt, welcher seinerseits am Oberschenkel angebracht ist. Damit sich beim Strecken des Beines kein Stofs bemerkbar macht, was entschieden stattfinden würde, wenn die beiden Stahlflächen des Ober- und Unterschenkels auf einander stiefsen, ist ein Gummibuffer m zwischengeschoben. Derselbe bildet ein Ringsegment und wird in eine zu dem Zweck am Unterschenkel angebrachte Kapsel η eingelegt. Der Oberschenkel ist mit einer entsprechend geformten Platte ο versehen, gegen welche sich der Buffer beim Strecken des Beines legt und so ein Stofsen verhütet.
