Abstract

The invention relates to a method for retaining styrene from the exhaust air. The object of the invention is to create a method which includes, under economic conditions, a gas scrubber for removing small amounts of styrene from the exhaust air in order to comply with limiting values of emission concentration in the surroundings of the emitting factories even when the emission concentration is below 3 g/m<3>. The object is achieved according to the invention by the styrene being retained from the exhaust air free of waste water and waste product via an aqueous solution of potassium permanganate.

Description

The invention relates to a method for restraint of styrene from the exhaust air, especially in one low concentration of styrene in the exhaust air.

It is known that with different cleaning methods the styrene is removed from the exhaust air can.

The internationally known methods are those for Recovery of styrene by low temperature condensation (Use of cold traps) [1] or through Adsorption of styrene on suitable adsorption materials and subsequent desorption (DD-PS 2 19 955), [2] and those for thermal styrene combustion and catalytic processes, possibly with previous enrichment of styrene by adsorbers [3].

Disadvantages of these processes are high investment and Operating costs so that they are only economically viable can be used when the styrene concentration is in the range of 3 g / m³ and accordingly worthwhile amounts of styrene can be recovered or correspondingly small amounts of fuel for combustion of styrene are needed.

The invention has for its object an economic Process for removing styrene from the exhaust air too develop small amounts of styrene from the exhaust air harmlessly removed so far that emission limit values fall below and are then to be observed, if the emission concentrations are less than 3 g / m³, d. i.e. when a combustion or solvent recovery becomes too expensive.

This object is achieved in that the exhaust air flow in a suitable device single or multi-stage gas scrubbing. Studies have shown that Potassium permanganate is suitable for this.

A chemical conversion follows in the Washing liquid (water) dissolved potassium permanganate probably with the following reaction sequence:

In neutraler Lösung findet folgende Reaktion des Kaliumpermanganates statt:The following reaction of the Potassium permanganates instead:

The gas scrubbing takes place under normal conditions. About 4.5 g of potassium permanganate makes 1 g of styrene oxidized. Potassium permanganate must correspond to the washed out amount of styrene are supplied. The aqueous solution consists of 0.01 g to 6 g of potassium permanganate to 100 ml of water.

Approximately the same amount of consumption Potassium permanganate is a by-product of manganese dioxide, which is fed to the manganese preparation after filtration can be. The process is thus free of waste products. Filtration can be continuous or discontinuous be made, as well as the specification of the Potassium permanganate oxidizing agent.

The process is wastewater-free since the filtrate is back is fed to the process. Filter and evaporation losses must be replaced with fresh water.

Da die Luft am Arbeitsplatz maximal 200 mg/m³ (MAKD-Wert) Styren enthalten darf, fallen beim Handlaminier- und Spritzverfahren der GUP-Verarbeitung hohe Abluftmengen mit geringen Styrenkonzentrationen an.The invention can be used, for example, in the processing of UP resins. Since the air in the workplace may contain a maximum of 200 mg / m³ (MAK D value) of styrene, high levels of exhaust air with low styrene concentrations are generated in the hand lamination and spraying process of GUP processing.

The mean styrene concentration in the exhaust air is in the range of 50 mg / m³ to 200 mg / m³.

The method according to the invention can be used in one Gas scrubbing stage removes 50% to 70% of styrene will. So that without high operating and Investment costs the maximum allowable emission values be respected.
