Der nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren hergestellte Tampon ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die an ihren einander überlappenden Längskanten ausschließlich mit sich selbst verschweißte Umhüllung aus flüssigkeitsdurchlässigem Vliesmaterial mit ihrer radial nach innen weisenden Ab kantung am Rückholende des aus saugfähigem Material be stehenden Wattewickels anliegt und aufgrund der Rückstell kräfte des komprimierten Wattewickels fest auf dem Watte wickel aufsitzt. Es ergibt sich somit ein Tampon, dessen Umhüllung mit einem einfachen Verfahren und ohne Be einträchtigung der Saugfähigkeit mit geringem apparativen Aufwand aufgebracht wird, so daß er trotz der sich aufgrund der Umhüllung ergebenden Vorteile preiswert hergestellt werden kann. Die in den Fig. 1 bis 3 und 5 nur teilweise dargestellte Vorrichtung zur Herstellung eines Tampons umfaßt eine Scheibe 1, an der mehrere dünnwandige Rohre 2 mit jeweils einem Ende in einer entsprechenden Bohrung befestigt sind. Die Rohre 2 sind parallel zueinander und im gleichen Ab stand voneinander auf demselben Teilkreis angeordnet, so daß sie nach einer schrittweisen Drehbewegung der Scheibe 1 um eine zentrale Achse nacheinander verschiedene Fertigungsstationen durchlaufen. Da sich der Watte wickel 5 im Inneren des Rohres 2 und die Umhüllung 7 auf dessen Mantelfläche befindet, verbindet die Längsnaht 7 c ausschließlich die Längskanten 7 a und 7 b der Umhüllung 7 und geht keinerlei Verbindung mit dem Wattewickel 5 ein. Diese Mitnahme wird dadurch begünstigt, daß sich - wie in Fig. 5 zu erkennen - der Wattewickel 5 ausdehnt, sobald er das Rohr 2 verläßt. Hierdurch ergibt sich ein fester Sitz der Umhüllung 7 auf dem Wattewickel 5, der nunmehr in eine Preßstation 9 ein tritt, deren Anfang in Fig. 5 zu erkennen ist und in der der Tampon durch in radialer Richtung sowohl auf den Watte wickel 5 als auch auf die Umhüllung 7 einwirkende Preß kräfte seine Endform erhält.After the shrinking of the sheath 7 and formation of the bend from 7 d , the cotton roll 5 is pushed out in the direction of the arrow from the tube 2 as shown in FIG. 5.
