B. etwa 1 bis 8 mm beträgt, wäh­ rend der Abstand in Transportrichtung zwischen einem Wellenhoch 29 und einem Wellentief 30 beispielsweise etwa 20 bis 150 mm betragen kann, wobei die Abstände auch un­ terschiedliche Größen haben können. Ein wesentlicher Grundgedanke der Erfindung ist demnach, die Papierbahnen mit deren Beschichtung in der Heizzone 18 aufzuheizen und anschließend in der Wärme, und zwar in derselben Wärme, an definierten Stellen der Papierbahn diese durch Anwendung von Druck und Hitze zu rändeln. Dadurch wird erreicht, daß die Fasern der mit der thermo­ plastifizierten Beschichtung versehenen Papier­ bahnen derart ineinander tiefgezogen werden, daß eine innige Verflechtung der übereinanderliegenden Papierfasern und der Beschichtung entsteht und dadurch eine hohe Sicherheit gegen unbefugtes Öffnen eines Briefes, Mailers usw. gegeben ist. Wenn nämlich der so hergestellte verflochtene und verklebte Rändelverschluß aufgetrennt wird, reißt die Papierfaserverflechtung auf und läßt sich nicht mehr in der Originalweise zusammenfügen, so daß eine etwaige unbefugte Öffnung des Briefes ohne weiteres nachgewiesen werden kann, da die Faser­ struktur im Schließbereich 34 durch den unbefugten Öffnungsvorgang zwangsläufig zerstört wurde. Verfahren zum Verbinden von mit einer plastifizierbaren Be­ schichtung (4) versehenen Papierlagen (2, 3), insbesondere ei­ nes gefalzten, auf der inneren Beschichtungsseite beschrifte­ ten Papierblatts, an mindestens einem, beispielsweise am Blattrand vorgesehenen, Schließbereich, wobei die Beschichtung (4) des Schließbereichs (34) zunächst durch Hitze aktiviert wird und danach die Papierlagen (2, 3) im Schließbereich (34) an definierten Stellen mittels Druck verbunden werden, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Papierlagen durch Einstellung eines vorgegebenen Prägedrucks derart formschlüssig miteinander verbunden werden, daß die Fasern der oberen und unteren Papierlage (2, 3) sich miteinander verflechten und einen innigen Verbund der Papier­ fasern bilden, welcher ein zerstörungsfreies Öffnen des Schließbereichs (34) verhindert. 1.
