Schnelligkeit, Grafikfähigkeit, geräuscharmer Betrieb, gutes Schriftbild, die Möglichkeit Durchschläge zu erstellen und eine lange Lebensdauer der Geräte. Die Praxis zeigt jedoch, daß selbst bei nur teilweiser Realisation dieser Ziele ein extremer Aufwand an Technik und Kosten erforderlich ist, wenn Schnelligkeit angestrebt wird. So sind z. B. Matrixnadeldrucker mit drei nebeneinanderliegenden Druckköp fen bekannt, die bei gleichzeitigem Einsatz und hohem Geräuschpegel bis zu 900 Zeichen pro Sekunde erstellen können. Geräuscharme Tintenstrahl drucker drucken bis zu 600 Zeichen pro Sekunde. Es können jedoch, wie bei allen berührungslos arbeitenden Druckern, keine Durchschläge er stellt werden.
