Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an arrangement for reducing the Glare from a headlight Motor vehicle emitted light beam according to the Preamble of the claim.
The application of polarized light for reduction or Prevention of glare from motor vehicle headlights is known. To effectively reduce glare to come are usually measures on both vehicles required. So it is not only necessary that Design headlights of one vehicle so that they emit linearly polarized light, but it is too required the windshield of the second vehicle to be equipped with an analyzer that detects polarization in causes a plane rotated by 90 degrees (DE-OS 27 53 545). The same effect can also be had by wearing a Analyzer acting polarizing glasses can be achieved (DE-OS 22 34 360).
The disadvantage in any case is that the effectiveness of the one system installed on a motor vehicle to the other involved motor vehicle installing a appropriate system requires to its occupants effective protection against glare.
Accordingly, the invention has for its object a Possibility to create the effectiveness of one at which the System of light emitting motor vehicle installed the existence of a corresponding system on the to make each other motor vehicle independent.
According to the invention, this object is achieved through the features of characterizing part of the claim.
The invention is based on the fact that the high beam is more common Motor vehicle headlights in a parallel to the traffic level, mostly horizontal plane is broadcast and that the Front and rear windows of most cars made of aerodynamic Reasons inclined at an acute angle to the horizontal are. It is based on the knowledge that this angle pretty much the BREWSTER'schen with regard to the light beam Corresponds to the polarization angle. So if one of one Automotive headlights emitted light bundle through this Headlights associated polarizer in a horizontal Plane is linearly polarized, then this light beam, if it is at the polarization angle on a front or Rear window of an oncoming or preceding car hits, reflected upwards. Depending on the situation on the difference in the angle of inclination of the front or Rear window to the horizontal becomes only a small part of the light beam broken on the glass surface and arrives as Scattered light in the motor vehicle.
The glare in the rearview mirror is similar reduced. If that's in a horizontal plane polarized light from a motor vehicle headlight on one Rear-view mirror hits, which is inclined in a vertical plane Wave normal of the light beam is set, then one again from the deviation from BREWSTER Angle dependent, but at least a substantial part of the Light polarizes through the glass surface, which in this case to "darkness", ie to a significant reduction in the Leads to glare.
The application of this physical phenomenon results in a lot many cases, namely with all motor vehicles inclined front and rear windows to one, if not complete, but nevertheless considerable reduction of the Glare, which is particularly advantageous in view of this appears that none of the second participating motor vehicle as well installations of any kind are necessary.
Es zeigtThe invention is based on one in the drawing illustrated embodiment of the invention closer explained. It shows
Fig. 1 schematisch den Strahlenverlauf an einer Front- oder Heckscheibe in Seitenansicht und Fig. 1 shows schematically the beam path on a front or rear window in side view
Fig. 2 shows schematically the beam path on a rear view mirror in plan view.
In the side view, that is to say in a vertical plane, of a beam path shown in FIG. 1, a headlight 1 of a first motor vehicle, which is provided with a polarizer 2 , emits a light beam indicated by its wave normal 3 , which, as by the wave line 4 was tried to indicate, is horizontally linearly polarized.
If this light beam now meets the front or rear window 5 of another motor vehicle at the BREWSTER angle ε B , then the glass surface acts as an analyzer with the effect that the already linearly polarized light beam is reflected upwards in the direction of the wave normal 3 ' . The effectiveness of this arrangement is of course dependent on the angle α which the glass surface forms with the horizontal or the wave normal 3 and the refractive index of the material of the glass pane 5 . In most cases, however, the glass pane has such an inclination that the BREWSTER polarization angle is at least approximately maintained, in which the reflected beam 3 'and the refracted beam 3 ''are perpendicular to one another, so that only a small proportion of the incoming light beam 3 in the form of the beam broken at the angle of refraction β 3 '' reaches the eye 6 .
The situation is similar when you look at the rearview mirror; this is indicated in Fig. 2, which is shown as a plan view. Here, too, the headlight 1 emits the light beam 3 horizontally polarized by the polarizer 2 , which in turn is indicated in the sketch as a wavy line 4 . If this beam 3 strikes the glass surface of a rearview mirror 7 at the polarization angle e B , which is oriented vertically and obliquely to the wave normal 3 of the light beam, then this glass surface in turn acts as an analyzer in the sense of a new polarization of the light beam in a plane rotated by 90 degrees. As a result, the vast majority of the light beam disappears due to polarization and only a relatively small proportion is reflected according to the wave normal 3 'and reaches the eye 6 .
The polarizer with which the headlights are to be equipped can basically be designed in any way. It can use polarizing foils or it can be used in Headlamp lens has a corresponding cut will. In any case, it should be enough if only the part of the headlight lens is designed as a polarizer is used to reflect the high beam; the sector that allows the light beam of the low beam to pass through no polarization arrangements. This can be a Headlights solely by dividing the light cone for High beam and low beam perform two functions, namely once that of the "normal" low beam and that of the polarized and therefore low-glare or glare-free High beam.
