Description

Process for preventing wood from fading. The economic Damage to the timber trade and the timber industry due to the fading of certain types of wood, Namely pines, suffer, have to work out various impregnation methods which is the main cause of fading, the growth of certain fungi, especially of Ceratostomella pilifera. It is known that the fresh wood can only be treated with antifungal solutions that preserve the natural color not affect. In practice, only mercury salts are used for this, primarily Line sublimate and fluoride solutions, in question. However, these diffuse proportionally quickly and crystallize in the wood, so that they are not uniform and gapless Can form a protective layer against the ingress of fungal threads. This explains that in practice some of the wood treated in this way often turns blue and so does that Procedure which takes security.

The present invention aims even under the most favorable development conditions for the discolouring types of fungus to prevent their penetration into the wood cells, that shortly under the attack surface of the wood there is a very difficult to diffuse, a water-permeable, long-lasting, colloidal protective layer is created; the constantly releases fungicidal and discoloration-preventing substances. As suitable for this Hardly crystallizing salts of complex mercury sulphurous appeared Acid, which is first P e a n d e S t. G i 11 e s, later described by K. B a r t h, especially sodium. It forms in water Solution of molar amounts of sublimate and sodium sulfite or bisulfite very easily, however, it is extremely difficult to obtain in crystalline form and only yields if it precipitates a gelatinous porridge. If a solution of the named components evaporates on wood, so through the colloids of the cell juices the formation of a very thin fungicide Protective layer promoted, which penetrates extremely slowly due to its colloidal nature, lets water through from the inside of the wood and as a result of a lack of crystallization capacity its main component is retained for a very long time. With their slow moving intricate decomposition that occurs via the very sparingly soluble and stable mercury sulphurous acid Sodium, the main products are sulphurous acid, sulphite and sublimate in addition to calomel, all strong fungal poisons or anti-staining substances. By This protective layer `mechanically prevents the penetration of spores into the wood and their development through the decomposition products of the layer, which are in the Dissolve outwardly pressing juices, prevented with the greatest possible security. Simultaneously prevents the split off sulphurous acid or its salt from other discolorations.

Inside the wood cells, the complex mercury sulfite compounds behave, in particular mercury chloride alkali sulphite, as used previously for wood preservation common mercury salts, insofar as this is the complex bond of mercury is of decisive importance. Ahead of you the mentioned complex mercury sulfite salts have a surprising effect in that they themselves Natural discoloration of the wood under the most unfavorable conditions, especially the fading of the jaws, safely prevent, like extensive experiments on a large scale have proven. With the previously used inorganic and organic mercury salts under the same test conditions this special discoloration-preventing Effect not even remotely achieved; it appears more sulphurous due to the entry of sulfur Acid to be conditional in the molecule.

The process is designed in such a way that one looks for the freshest possible Wood, preferably immediately after cutting, a solution of for example One centimole each sublimate and sodium sulfite or the corresponding amount of bisulfite in the liter by dipping, spraying or brushing and in the usual way lets dry, or that the solutions of the components are used one after the other.
