Abstract

The practising box for saxophones and clarinets is a compact soundproof box, which reduces the volume of woodwind instruments to room level. There are three different sizes, for alto saxophone, tenor saxophone and for soprano saxophones and clarinets. The practising boxes are adapted to the instruments. The boxes have an aperture on the front side and the lid, through which aperture the instrument is introduced into the box. The mouthpiece projects through the opening in the lid. The openings on the front side are inserted in such a way that the musician can play the instrument without hindrance. The insides are soundproofed with structural foamed material. The outsides of the boxes are covered with artificial leather and are provided with handles and case corners. The practising boxes have the advantage that they reduce the volume of the instruments to room level over their whole registers, without altering alternation within the registers. The practising box is an alternative to inadequate conventional soundproofing devices and to expensive and bulky "practising chambers".
