Abstract

Additives are prepd. by reacting a benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride (I) and/or an ester of (I) with a hydrocarbyl amine (II) in a molar ratio of 3:1 to 1:3 at 100-300 deg. C and atmospheric pressure. Pref. (I) is in the form of an ester prepd. by reacting (I) with a 1-72C alkanol, esp. isodecanol, in a molar ratio of 1:4 to 4:1. Pref. (II) is tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA), a mixt. of branched 12C primary amines, a mixt. of 16-18C primary amines derived from tallow, an aminopropyl-substd. oleylamine or a succinimide, e.g. prepd. from an alkenylsuccinic anhydride and TEPA.
