Abstract

The retractable multi-hinged joint (4) comprises two end plates (5,6) of which one (5) is a reference plate. The plates are connected by three linkages (7,8,9), each linkage has two components (10,11; 12,13; 14,15) respectively. Each pair of components are hinged together with a spherical joint (16,17,18) whilst the end plate and links are each connected by a hinged joint (19,20; 21,22; 23,24). The mechanism has three directions of movement consisting of a translation and two circular motions. The circular motions are around an axis at righ angles to the axis of the translation.
