Abstract

The invention relates to the charge cycle control in internal combustion engines. The problem of accommodating control elements and/or valves in the combustion chamber is essentially solved in that only one valve is arranged in the working or combustion chamber, whilst the exhaust and refilling of the gases is performed upstream of this one valve, that is outside this heat-affected zone. The possible uses of the invention are in the internal combustion engine sector and include the internal exhaust gas recirculation in the control of the charge cycle. The one valve, arranged in the combustion chamber, functions as inlet and exhaust valve, around which exhaust gas and fresh gas flow alternately so that thermally it is not as highly stressed as existing exhaust valves. The valve B (dual-valve) shown in Fig. 1 assumes the control function without high pressure and thermal stressing; at the same time it must not form a hermetic seal like the single valve H in the combustion chamber. The control function of the dual valve B may also be assumed, for example, by an "Aspin" rotary slide valve system. <IMAGE>
