Es hat sich nün gezeigt, daß man Kohle von starker; absorbierender und katalytischer Fähigkeit auch erhält, wenn man kohlenstoffhaltige Substanzen, wie Holz, Zucker, Stärke, tierische Abfälle usw. mit anderen in der Hitze flüchtigen Chloriden behandelt, wobei in praktischer Beziehung die billigen Chloride des Aluminiums und Ammoniums besonders wertvoll sind.
