Der Erfindung liegt die Aufgabe zugrunde, ein Relais der obengenannten Art zu schaffen, bei dem der Abschaltüberspannungsschutz mit weniger aufwendigen Mitteln erreicht werden kann. Dies wird auf einfache Weise dadurch erreicht, daß der Abschaltüberspannungsschutz aus einer der Leuchtdiode zugeschalteten Diodenschaltung besteht. Eine einfache Ausführung der Diodenschaltung ergibt sich, wenn der Leuchtdiode eine Diode antiparallel geschaltet ist. Anstelle der Diode 6 ist im Ausführungsbeispiel nach Fig. 2 ein Brückengleichrichter 8 angeordnet, dessen eine Diagonale vom Verbindungspunkt mit dem Anschluß 2 gebildet wird; in der anderen Diagonale liegt die Leuchtdiode 5. Diese Schaltungsanordnung hat den Vorteil, daß zum überspannungsschutz die dreifache Diodenspannung ausgenutzt werden kann,und darüber hinaus kann die Polarität der Steuerspannung beliebig gewählt werden, da die Leuchtdiode durch den Brückengleichrichter stets in Durchlaßrichtung mit Strom beaufschlagt wird. Die mit der erfindungsgemäßen Schaltungsanordnung erreichbaren Abschaltspannungen liegen in der gleichen Größenordnung wie die Abschaltüberspannungen, die mit einem Varistor erreicht werden können, jedoch liegen die hierzu aufgewendeten Kosten bei der Ausführungsform nach Fig. 1 etwa bei 20 % und bei der Ausführungsform nach Fig. 2 bei ca. 70 %.
