Verfahren zur Entfernung von Phosphorverbindungen aus Abwasser bei der biologischen Klärung, bei dem das zu klärende Abwasser zur Umwandlung organischer Stickstoffverbindungen in Nitrite und Nitrate durch ein Belebungsbecken und zur Trennung von Wasser und Schlamm durch ein Nachklärbecken geführt wird, aus dem der Schlamm und das Wasser getrennt abgezogen werden, wobei bei Überschreiten eines vorbestimmten Gehaltes an Nitriden und Nitraten im Nachklärbecken das Abziehen von Schlamm für einen von diesem Gehalt abhängigen Zeitraum unterbrochen wird, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der Gehalt des Abwassers im Belebungbecken an freiem: Sauerstoff auf einen zur Nitrifizierung der organischen Stickstoffverbindungen durch Kleinlebewesen in Nitrite und Nitrate ausreichenden Wert gehalten wird und das Abziehen von Schlamm aus dem Nachklärbecken für einen zur Denitrifikation der Nitrite und Nitrate durch Kleinlebewesen in Stickstoff ausreichenden Zeitraum unterbrochen wird.
