Abstract

The alloy contains by wt. 60-80% gold, 3-5% zinc, 1-3% germanium and unspecified amts. of silver and palladium; but no copper is present. When the alloy possesses the max. permissible amt. of zinc, vis. 5% the amt.of Ge present is 2%. The alloy is pref. used as either a casting or a forging. Copper causes the discoloration of dental prosthesis, so alloys contg. no Cu are required. A suitable alloy is described in 2509476 and contains 2-5% Zn to increase its hardness; but a Zn content of over ca. 3% causes a loss of ductility. It has now been discovered that an addn. of Ge improves the ductility of relatively hard alloys contg. up to 5% Zn. The results in an optimum combination of hardness, ductility and cost.

Description

Kupferfreie Goldlegierung für zahn ärztliche ZweckeCopper-free gold alloy for dental purposes

The invention relates to a copper-free gold alloy for dental use Purposes with 60 - 80 percent by weight gold, up to 5% zinc, and silver and palladium.

Eine derartige Legierung ist aus der-DE- 0S 25 09 476 bekannt.Such an alloy is known from DE-OS 25 09 476.

In general, there is a need for copper-free alloys that copper leads to undesirable discoloration of the prosthetic work. The problem then arises that such copper-free alloys with regard to their technological properties should not be worse off than those that contain copper Alloys.

In DE-OS 25 09 476 it is proposed to use a proportion of Provide 2-5% zinc in the alloy, which causes the Vickers hardness specified there, which should be at least as high as with copper-containing alloys.

Apart from the fact that it is part of specialist knowledge that high additions of Zinc achieve high Vickers hardnesses, adding more zinc leads to a certain amount Threshold also to a strong embrittlement of the alloy, the extent of which the so-called Ductility is.

It can be seen for e that in an exemplary embodiment according to the DE- OS 25 09 476 with a zinc content of 3.5% does have good Vickers hardness values show that their ductility is practically zero, so that this technical are not usable.

Proceeding from this, the invention has as its object in such copper-free gold alloys with zinc content over 2% a decisive improvement the ductility, whereby the values of the Vioker hardness are not reduced be allowed.

To achieve this object, the gold alloy according to the invention contains 1-3% germanium with at least 3% zinc content.

As a result of the addition of germanium, the zinc content can be sufficient Ductility of the alloy can be increased up to 5%, with the Vickers hardness in the hardened State over 200 kp / mm².

The alloy according to the invention enables an inexpensive combination of high Vickers hardness and optimal ductility.

Refinements of the invention can be found in the subclaims.

Exemplary embodiments of the copper-free gold alloy according to the invention can be found in the following table: Au Pt Pd Ag Zn Ge HV HV aus- Dukti - soft hardened grade 1 70.0 4.0 6.0 15.0 3.0 2.0 150 210 100% 2 70.0 4.0 6.0 14.0 4.0 2.0 155 220 approx. 90% 3 70.0 4-, 0 6.0 13.0 5.0?, 0 i60 240 approx. 80% 4 70.0 «6.0 19.0 3.0 2.0 150 210 100% 5 69.0 4.0 6.0 16.0 3.0 2.0 215 215 100% One recognizes from these 5 exemplary embodiments that a sufficient zinc content of 5% Ductility of about 80% is achieved. Surprisingly, the addition of Germanium, therefore, the zinc content to increase the Vickers hardness up to a range by using conventional technology, without germanium, already had led to severe embrittlement and insufficient ductility. The proportion range of the zinc in such gold alloys is therefore due to the simultaneous use pushed out further by germanium.

By adding known grain refiners such as iridium and ruthenium the structure of the alloys according to the invention can be made finer-grained.

The alloys according to the invention are not only available as cast alloys, but also suitable as an Enet alloy.
