Description
Wooden nesting box system with replaceable front walls for cave-dwelling birds, mammals and insects.
Traditional wooden nesting boxes have so far been constructed in such a way that they can only be used for one type of animal, i.e. either birds, mammals or insects. The box shape we have found is ideally suited in terms of shape and size for birds, mammals and insects and is accepted by all three of the above-mentioned animal species. A strip is attached to the top and bottom of the box front -a- and behind these strips the front wall is first pushed upwards into the box and then pressed down. The strip attached to the front walls -b.- prevents the front wall from falling inwards and also serves as an approach strip for birds and insects, as well as a handle when hanging the front wall. The front walls can be replaced without tools, allowing flexibility to be used for existing or new animal species looking for a nesting place. For example, if you have installed a box with a front wall for tits and you notice that starlings want to use the box, you can easily replace the front wall intended for starlings with the larger entrance hole, so you don't need to hang up a new box. If no birds have moved in by around mid-May, you can install a front wall for insects (solitary bees and wasps, or other hymenoptera) which often only start breeding at this time of year, or a front wall for bats which are looking for a nursery for raising their young or a summer quarters at this time.
