Es sind Anwendungen bekannt, bei welchen hocheffiziente Leuchtdioden zu Feldern angeordnet werden. Aufgund ihrer Abstrahlcharakteristik mit je nach Bauart sehr geringen Öffnungswinkel ist die Verwendung zusätzlicher abbildender Optik nicht notwendig. Solche Systeme sind beispielsweise in der Straßenverkehrsleittechnik als selbstleuchtende Verkehrsschilder und als Straßenampel im Einsatz. Bei Signalleuchten für den Bahnverkehr sind zur Erzielung der geforderten Leuchtstärke verhältnismäßig wenige Leuchtdioden notwendig. Bei planer Montierung der wenigen notwendigen Leuchtdioden in Richtung der Hauptachse der Leuchte wäre der optische Gesamteindruck gegenüber der ursprünglichen Lichtquelle, nämlich Glühfadenlampe oder Gasglühlicht, stark verändert und die Forderung nach einem möglichst homogenen Signalbild nicht erfüllt. Zur Erzielung einer geringen Leuchtdichteschwankung an der Frontscheibe der Leuchte ist daher die Verwendung einer abbildenden Optik unabdingbar.There are known applications in which highly efficient light-emitting diodes are arranged in fields.
