In Fig. 1 ist ein Schweißverbinder bzw. eine Schweißmuffe 10 zur Verbindung zweier Kunststoffrohre 12 im Längsschnitt dargestellt, bei denen es sich entweder um ein über die gesamte Wanddicke aus Kunststoff bestehende Rohre oder um Kunststoff/Metall-Verbundrohre handelt, bei denen eine Metallzwischenlage zwischen zwei Kunststofflagen angeordnet ist. Der Schweißfitting 10 weist einen rohrförmigen Anschlußkörper 14 aus Kunststoff auf. Der Anschlußkörper 14 ist mit einem massiven mittleren Ringabschnitt 16 versehen, von dem aus sich beidseitig in beide axiale Richtungen jeweils eine zylindrische Innenwandung 18 und eine dazu parallele und konzentrische zylindrische Außenwandung 20 erstrecken. Die Heizbänder 3 0 der in die Innenwandungen 18 eingebetteten Heizelemente 26 sind abgewickelt in Fig. 2 dargestellt. Durch Anlegung einer elektrischen Spannung an die Anschlußenden 32 der Heizbänder 30 der Heizelemente 26 und 28 fließt durch die Heizbänder 30 elektrischer Strom, der zu einer Erhitzung des thermoplastischen Kunststoffmaterials des Anschlußkörpers 14 im ringraumnahen Bereich führt. Darüber hinaus erwärmen die Heizbänder 30 auch die von den Ringräumen 22 aufgenommenen Enden der Kunststoffrohre 12 von innen und von außen. Infolge der Plastifizierung des Materials des Anschlußkörpers 14 und des Kunststoffrohres 12 kommt es zu einer innigen Verbindung dieser beiden Elemente, so daß nach Abkühlung eine zuverlässige Schweißverbindung des Anschlußkörpers 14 mit den Kunststoffrohren 12 entsteht. In die Innenwände 18 des Anschlußkörpers 14 ist eine Verstärkungseinlage 38 integriert, die insbesondere als durchgehende Hülse aus Metall, einem Duroplast oder einem Kunststoff-Material mit einem Schmelzpunkt, der wesentlich höher ist als der des durch die Heizelemente plastifizierbaren Kunststoffmaterials, ausgebildet ist. Hierdurch wird verhindert, daß die den Durchlaß 40 des Anschlußkörpers 14 begrenzende Innenwand 18 im erhitzten Zustand zusammenfällt.
