Description
Peroneal splints that are worn in shoes - orthopedic devices - normally have no articulated connections. The foot part and the ankle clamp are rigid. These simple splints have been further developed by attaching medial and/or lateral articulated spring connections made of steel in the area of the malleoli. In addition, other systems have rubber bands on an elastic plastic reinforcement which in turn is attached to the extensor side of a two-stretch compression ankle sock.
The invention specified in claim 1 is based on the problem of creating a peroneal splint that guides the foot and achieves a knee-stretching and stabilizing effect during heel strike with subsequent plantar flexion.
This problem is solved with the features listed in claim 1. The invention ensures that the orthosis is lightweight, fits in almost any shoe and is easy for the patient to put on. Using movable ankle splints and ankle cuffs, the foot, which is still mobile, can be moved dynamically using rubber bands. A dynamic, natural gait is made possible, which leads to better adaptation to the ground. During natural gait, plantar flexion occurs after the heel strike, which has a knee-stretching and thus stabilizing effect and gives the patient greater security.
An advantageous embodiment of the invention is specified in claim 2. The ankle splints are light, hinged, thin and anatomically deformable. This results in a low weight and a very good fit. There are no chafing points in the area of the malleoli. There can be no chafing points at all in the area of the Achilles tendon, as the ankle splints do not extend into this area. This arrangement and construction of the ankle splints also means that there is no constriction of soft tissue or blood vessels.
The advantageous construction specified in claim 3 of the invention is as follows.
The ankle cuff is anatomically designed, very light, hinged, open ventrally and lies below the gastrocnemius muscle. This means that there is neither friction on the skin nor wedging by the proximal edge of the orthosis. Additional atrophy is avoided.
A further embodiment of the invention is specified in claim 4. The articulated connections in the area of the distal and proximal ankle splints enable dynamic walking. Heel slippage in the shoe is also prevented.
These connections mean that the foot is not passively fixed. The existing mobility is supported. The joint does not stiffen so easily and the foot does not become equinox-like.
A further advantageous embodiment of the invention is specified in claim 5.
The adjustability of the rubber bands allows for a controlled, dynamically corrective dorsal flexion, which prevents additional spasms.
The advantageous interaction of the embodiments of the invention is specified in claims 5, 4 and 3.
This interaction reduces pressure points and constrictions on the vascular and nervous systems. The plantar flexion that follows heel strike leads to positive sensory feedback combined with a great feeling of security for the patient. Since the maximum mobility of the foot is released, there is no additional atrophy of the muscles.
