In der Kardiologie werden insbesondere nach Gefäßdilatationen Stents in die Gefäße eingeführt, um erneuten Okklusionen des Gefäßes vorzubeugen. Bislang werden hierzu herkömmliche Stents (Coil-Stents, Multizellular-Stents oder ähnliche) mit verhältnismäßig kleinen, gleichmäßig verteilten Öffnungen oder Zwischenräumen verwendet, wobei ein erster Stent mit einem Ballonkatheter bis über den Verzweigungsbereich geschoben und aufgeweitet und anschließend ein zweiter Stent im nicht aufgeweiteten Zustand durch eine der Öffnungen oder Zwischenräume des ersten Stents hindurch in das abzweigende Gefäß eingeführt und anschließend ebenfalls aufgeweitet wird. Das Hindurchführen des zweiten Stents durch eine der in der Regel ziemlich engen radialen Öffnungen des ersten Stents ist jedoch häufig nur schwer möglich. Außerdem ]<ann der zweite Stent im Bereich seines Durchtritts durch den ersten Stent nur bedingt aufgeweitet werden. Im Ubergangsbereich der beiden Gefäße bilden die Stents somit einen großen Fließwiderstand. Außerdem wird der Blutfluß in das. abzweigende Gefäß an der Durchtrittstelle der beiden Stents bei korrekter Positionierung nicht behindert. Zweckmäßigerweise kann der mindestens eine Abschnitt mit vergrößerten radialen öffnungen hohlzylindrisch sein. Hierdurch vereinfacht sich das Einsetzen des Stents in das Gefäß, da nicht auf eine bestimmte Ausrichtung der radialen öffnungen zu achten ist. Zweckmäßigerweise können dabei die Durchmesser der vergrößerten radialen öffnungen derart bemessen sein, daß durch die öffnungen ein zweiter, nicht aufgeweiteter Stent leicht hindurchführbar ist. Die vergrößerten radialen öffnungen können beispielsweise die Form einer Raute, eines anderen Vielecks, eines Kreises oder einer Ellipse aufweisen. Ein Stent mit solchen öffnungen ist vorzugsweise durch Laserschneiden aus einem nahtlosen Meta11röhrchen herstellbar. Der Stent kann auch mehrere Abschnitte mit vergrößerten radialen öffnungen aufweisen. Dabei kann der Stent vorzugsweise derart ausgebildet sein, daß seine radiale Steifigkeit in dem mindestens einen Abschnitt mit vergrößerten radialen öffnungen der radialen Steifigkeit in den übrigen Abschnitten wenigstens annähernd entspricht.
