Description
05 06-9605 06-96
The invention relates to an obstacle warning device for blind and visually impaired people according to the preamble of claim 1.
An obstacle warning device of the type mentioned is already known, which is housed in a cuboid-shaped housing that is carried in the hand. An ultrasonic transmitter and an ultrasonic receiver are arranged on one side of the device that is directed in the detection direction. The transmitter sends out directed sound pulses, which are reflected by obstacles and picked up by the receiver. A vibrator built into the housing causes the entire device to vibrate.
The device can be carried discreetly in the hand and easily pointed in any desired direction, but the user only has one hand free.
In another well-known obstacle warning device, the transmitter and receiver are built into a pair of glasses. They are connected via a cable to a separate housing that is worn on the body and contains batteries and control electronics. The signal is given by acoustic signals that are sent via a tube from the temple to the ear, similar to a hearing aid integrated into glasses.
With this device, the user has both hands free, but the adjustment is done by turning and tilting the head, and is therefore only possible to a limited extent. In addition, the hearing, which is so important for blind people to perceive the environment, is heavily used.

The object of the invention is to propose an obstacle warning device that can be worn both in the hand and on the body.
The problem is solved by the characterizing part of claim 1.
If a wide detection area needs to be covered, the obstacle warning device can be carried in the hand, similar to a flashlight. To do this, the second housing part is grasped in the hand and the first housing part is aligned so that the beam direction of the transmitter is parallel to the longitudinal axis of the second housing part. If the user wants to have both hands free, he can carry the obstacle warning device on his body, e.g. by carrying it in his breast pocket or on a strap around his neck. For this purpose - in a further development of the invention - fastening means for such a strap are attached to the side walls of the second housing part. In this case, the first housing part must be pivoted so that the beam direction of the transmitter is aligned perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the second housing part and away from the user's body.
Diese zeigt inAn embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to a drawing. This shows in
Fig. 1 die Vorderansicht einer Hinderniswarneinrichtung Fig. 1 the front view of an obstacle warning device

»•••&ggr;··»•••&ggr;··
In Fig. 1, an obstacle warning device 10 is shown in front view. It consists of an upper, first housing part 12 and a lower, second housing part 14. The latter is column-shaped with a base area 16 that is approximately rectangular (Fig. 3). In the upper area, the lower housing part 14 is provided with a cutout 18 that is open at the top and is laterally delimited by arms 22 that adjoin the side walls 20 of the lower housing part 14. In a side view of the obstacle warning device 10 (Fig. 2), the upper end of each arm 22 has the shape of a semicircle 24.
Die Hinterseite 36 des ersten Gehäuseteils 12 ist halbzylindrisch..In the cutout 18, the first housing part 12 is pivotally mounted about a pivot axis 26 that passes through the arms 22 in the center of the semicircles 24. The length 1 of the first housing part 12 corresponds approximately to the clear distance between the arms 22, so that the first housing part 12 is held with little play between them. The front 28 of the first housing part 12 is flat and provided with an elongated opening 30 that is covered with a cover 32 that is permeable to ultrasound, e.g. a plastic grid. Behind the cover, ultrasound transmitters and receivers 34 are installed, the beam direction or main reception direction of which is aligned normal to the front 28 of the first housing part 12. Instead of ultrasonic transmitters and receivers, transmitters and receivers for electromagnetic radiation, e.g. infrared light, can also be provided. The cover 32 must be transparent to the selected type of radiation, in the latter case translucent. The rear side 36 of the first housing part 12 is semi-cylindrical.
Es ergibt sich dadurch eineAs shown in Fig. 3, the side edges 38 of the second housing part 14 are grooved. This results in a
Nevertheless, the cross-sectional geometry of the lower housing part 14 is approximately rectangular. However, the rectangular shape allows for an easy-to-manufacture ready-to-use case. The lower housing part 14 can also be oval or exactly rectangular or with side walls that are rounded outwards.
A vibration pin 40 is built into the front wall 39 of the lower housing part 14, which is excited to vibrate by a signal generator (not shown) in response to radiation received by a receiver 34. The spatial arrangement of the vibration pin 40 is selected such that a hand holding the obstacle warning device 10 comes into contact with it without any effort.
On the side walls 20, above the center of gravity of the obstacle warning device 10, eyelets 42 are attached, which serve to attach a carrying strap (not shown). Below an eyelet 42, an electrical connection contact 44, e.g. a jack plug socket, is embedded in a side wall 20, to which a signal converter that is carried separately from the housing 12, 14 can be connected. This can be, for example, a vibration sensor attached to a long stick.
If the obstacle warning device 10 is carried in the hand, the first housing part 12 must be swiveled into the position shown in Fig. 2. If the hand is held in the correct ergonomic position, the main beam direction of the ultrasonic transmitter/receiver 34 is directed into the space in front of the user. If, however, the obstacle warning device 10 is carried in the breast pocket or on a strap looped around the neck in front of the user's chest,
If the device is to be worn hanging by the user, the first housing part 12 must be pivoted forwards into a position facing away from the user, as shown in Fig. 2 with solid or dashed lines. In both cases of use, the main beam direction c is thus optimally aligned. When not in use, the first housing part 12 can be pivoted so that its front side 28 faces in the direction of the second housing part 14. It is then concealed between the arms 22, so that the obstacle warning device 10 can easily be packed in a ready-to-use bag.
